October 19, 2004 Dear Diary,

When I woke up this morning, I was back in my bed. I faintly remember climbing out of the cabinet and walking upstairs, but it all seems like a hazey dream. It just hit me that I haven't been to shool for two days. Oh well, maybe they won't notice. Maybe they don't even notice when I really am there. Yeah, like the invisible man, or something like that, only not quite. No. They'll notice if they haven't already.

After I woke up, I stumbled towards the bathroom and looked in the mirror. My hair was a mess and I looked horrible. I could try out to be a monster in some horror movie and I'd get the part in a snap. But, this isn't a horror movie and I'm not a monster... I think.

Well, I decided to go into Matt's room. I don't really remember why, I just did. When I walked in, I thought I must have been in the wrong room, because everything was gone. I mean everything. The bed and the dresser were the only things left in the room. Everything else was out side on the curb in trash bags. I ran dowstairs as the garbage man came. He picked up all of the furniture and clothes and everything and put it in the truck. He drove off before I even realized what had happened.

So, I sped back up to Matt's room. When I entered, I noticed a small piece of paper on the ground. It said"

"Hey, Alicia,

Listen, I'm really sorry. I'm sorry about everything. I threw all my stuff away why you were asleep. Listen, I'm leaving. I can't say where to, but I'm not coming back. See ya' round, kid.

-Matt"

When I read that, I fealt more alone than ever before. Mom and Dad were gone and now Matt. I think I cried, but I can't really remember.

I walked over to my parents room and knocked on the door. "Mom, are you in there?" I asked. All I heard was a groan. I opened the door, slowly and carefully. Mom was sitting on herbed, with a cigarette in her hand. She smokes whenever she's nervous. "Mom, why? Why is all this happening?"

She just looked at me and sighed. "I'm pregnant, Alicia."

"Why's that a problem?" I asked, not even suspecting anything.

"Because it might not be your father's." My heart stopped. Everything seemed to freeze. She opened her mouth to speak again, but nothing came out. Finally, I heard her mumbl, "But, that's not all of it. We're bankrupt, Alicia. We've got nothing. Your dad gambled it all away whenever he wasn't out with his girlfriend."

I choked. Pregnant? Gambling? Girlfriend. Everything went black, and I fealt my body falling. I hit the ground with a thud.

When I woke up, I was in my room. Mom must have dragged me in. I looked outside. Her car was gone again. I cried some more.

That's when I decided that I had to do something. I put on my tennis shoes and grabbed my backpack. I turned it upside down and watched all of my things pour out. Then, I put some clothes in it and headed downstairs. I got my wallet with all the money I had and grabbed some food. I haveo go and find Matt. He hasn't always been the best brother, but he's the only one that can help me. I don't care what it takes, I have to find him, and I'm leaving tonight.
