My sister Sarah always did risky stuff. But she is the nicest person I have ever known. Even nicer than my parents. But today she did the worst thing ever. She was driving with her friends, trying to impress them running a red light. A truck rammed right into her. When I got home earlier my Mom looked very gloomy. I asked her what was wrong. Then she told me. I started screaming. “It’s okay” my Mom said. “It’s okay”.
From somewhere far away, I heard a voice saying, “Erika, are you okay?”. Then I noticed I was in the hospital. That voice was coming from my Mom. “Mommy, why am I here?” I asked. “You fainted from shock.” she replied. I bolted straight up. “Is Sarah okay?” I asked in a scared voice. My Mom waited about a minute before responding. “No, she is in critical condition.” “The doctors said she’s probably not going to make it.” I screamed again but this time twice as loud. “I need to see her!” I said.
“Okay” my Mom said. Then I saw my sister. She looked terrible. I went up to her and whispered “it will be okay.” “Please don’t die on me” I sobbed. “Just think of the times when I was a baby and you hugged and kissed me”. “Remember the times when you played checkers with me”. “I need someone like you in my life.” “You are my best friend.”
How often do we get to tell the people we love how much we cherish them?
