"We are here," said the Barn Owl, called Mystery. Dawn just turned and vomited a little. The ride had been loopy, due to the fact that the boys had shot at them on the way. She was excited though, since she would help the owls.
As they looked around, owl-people emerged from the trees. Those were the true forms of the owls. Each owl-person had an owl mask and a feather cloak. They also wore jackal-skin tunics, as the jackals had offered their skins, but not their bodies. The skins would grow back.
Dawn looked up at Mystery, waiting for her instructions. Mystery handed her and Jasmine each a mask and a cloak. They put them on, not wishing to anger the great Barn Owl. Mystery then gave them instructions:
"You must fly above the evil-hearted human males. They will shoot at you. You must catch these stones and toss them back. They will flee. If they bring reinforcements, call for the help of the jackals. Then swoop down to attack. The owl masks and cloaks are enough to turn you into owls. Now fly!"
Two owls burst into the air: a Snowy and a Short-eared.
