Josephine crept down the stairs. "Are you sure everyone's asleep?" she whispered to Percy. She didn't want to get caught messing with the spellbook!
"Surer than sure," the raven whispered back, grinning slightly as he did so, or at least mustering the best imitation of a grin a bird could do.
Josephine opened the trunk. It creaked slightly as she did so. The young girl froze, sure she would be discovered. But no one awoke. She breathed a sigh of releif and removed the spellbook.
Together, by the light of moon, the girl and the bird pored over the spellbook, studying the various spells availible. Finally, Josephine held one spell up to Percy's face:
"Spell Fifty-one: Eagle Eyes! Gain x-ray vision and more!"
Percy frowned. "I don't know. It's caused some problems in the-Gagkch!" Josephine had grabbed him by the neck and was choking him. "Gakch-Lwet gwho ovh mwee!"
"Will you help me do the spell?" she growled angrily. Percy nodded, and Josephine released her hand. Percy fell to the ground with a "thump."
He got up, rubbing his head. "O-kay! First, we need a drop of moonlight!"
"A drop of moonlight?" cried Josephine. "Moonlight isn't liquid!" Her eyebrows drew together. "But I'm willing to try."
"Good girl!" said Percy. "Now, you need a net of pure silk..."
So that was how the next few days were spent. In time, they had collected all that was needed for the spell. Josephine grinned and rubbed her hands together.
In a few minutes, they were done. Josephine stared through Percy. She saw his bones and the closet behind him! She grinned. "This is going to be fun."
"Now, there's something that I remember about this spell that made me not want to do it. What was it...what was it..." Percy scratched his head, trying to remember.
To be continued...
