0 Chapter 1 0 The Strange Quake 6
JINNY! JUST KICK THE DANG BALL YOU-”
“TODD! SHUT IT!” I yelled, kicking the ball in the complete opposite direction. I watched as Todd’s face turned from mad to VERY mad. Todd has a short attention span and a short tolerance span too. Lets just say he gets on everyone’s nerves even though he’s totally popular and he needs Anger Management.
“YOU FREAKIN’-”
“HEY! TODD! Pay attention! You’re the team captain! Now get down field!” Mr. Nicholes, our PE teacher, had come over and had stepped in the middle of things before Todd said some real nasty stuff. Todd stormed off and ran down the field towards our goal, which was where the ball was heading. I already knew we were going to loose. But - it wasn’t a grade so I didn’t really care.
“Thanks Mr. Nocholes.” I replied.
“That’s okay. I know how Todd can be.”
I turned and watched as the ball got ever so close to the goal. I saw that my friend Taylor was near the guy who had it. “TAYLOR! GET THE BALL! STEAL IT!” she was a lot better at soccer then I was! That was for sure!
Unfortunately the guy who had the ball was also Cameron, the guy who Taylor had a crush on. I slapped my forehead as I saw Taylor pretend to stumble over her feet.
“SCORE!!” The other team had won, but, like I said, I didn’t care. Obviously someone did.
“TAYLOR! YOU IDIOT! YOU COULD’VE STOLE THE BALL!” Todd shouted.
“HEY! TODD! PUT A SOCK IN YOUR MOUTH FOR ONCE!” I shouted as I watched Taylor get up from where she had fallen. Thinking that he had tripped her Cameron held out his hand.
“Thanks.” Taylor got up and dusted herself off. “Yeah, Todd, it’s not like you ever scored!”
“OHHH! Comeback from Taylor!” Cameron cried, then walked away laughing.
Todd cursed a few words under his breath and walked away. I was abut to turn to Taylor when all of the sudden a heard a slight rumble and felt the ground gerk from underneath me. “WHOA!” I stumbled and landed flat on my stomach.
Taylor and my other best friend Brian walked over and looked down at me. “That was weird? Did you trip too?” Taylor asked, smiling slightly. She held out her hand and helped me up.
“You mean, you didn’t feel anything?” I asked, bewildered.
“What?” Brian asked.
“I mean, didn’t you hear that rumble and-”
“What rumble? Did a tree fall? These winds we’ve been having might’ve made a tree fall.” Taylor looked around and over to where the pine trees were growing.
“Well, uh, never mind, the bell rang, come on.” ‘Why didn’t Taylor and Brian hear the rumble? It seemed like it was as loud as a lightning bolt. Why couldn’t they feel the quake? Why didn’t anyone else? Now that I think about it nothing moved besides me, and mom never said anything about the quake this morning. What’s going on here?’ These questions wouldn’t be answered for a while, but the strange happenings were just beginning. . .
