ALL ABOUT MY FAV ANIMAL!!

Now, all of you may know that my favorite animal is a wolf, but some of you may not know about them. Well, I happen to be an expert, but sometimes I forget SOME things about wolves… but that’s not often… :D Okay, here are the basic things you should know about wolves.

They travel in pack, their packs can vary from 2 wolves up to about 15. There are certain ranks in a pack. The most common ranks we hear about are Alpha, Beta and Omega. But there are more… Alpha, Beat and Delta are the three top ranks. Sigma, Upper Subordinate, Subordinate and Lower Subordinate are the middle ranks and then the Cappa, Pheta and Omega are the lowest, not including pups who sometimes even get more privileges than the Omega. The Alpha is in charge of the whole pack and in (usually) the only couple to mate.

Like families, they discipline and love. To show anger they hold their tail high, while the hair on their backs and neck stand up, then they will show their teeth and growl, if they are really mad they will snarl (yes, there is a difference). To show love they lick, nibble, rub up against one another and whine. To show fright or uneasiness they usually whine, yelp, fold their ears back and tremble. To show they are sorry they lie on their back in a submissive position and have their tail tucked in between their legs, they will never look into your or any of the pack members’ eyes because this is the sign of a challenge. To us, it’s like them saying “I’m willing to fight you…”

There have been many known ‘myths’ about wolves. Tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, which we all know of, and other stories can (and have) lead a lot of people into believing that wolves are terrible, blood-thirsty creatures who want to eat you and your children. While there is also the thought of WereWolves, which people also take those creatures as blood-thirsty beasts unlike I, have not really helped the wolfs’ existence. For hundreds of years people have slaughtered wolves for fur, or just for ‘fun’. Matter-of-fact, they are doing that right now in Alaska…

While all dogs are, indeed, related to wolves (same as foxes and coyotes) wolves behave differently and are the Top Dog. They are the smartest, most tightly-nit group in the Dog Family. While many people believe that getting a Wolf Hybrid (a dog with some percentage of wolf) is a good idea, they are usually proven wrong. While most of these Wolf Hybrids make wonderful companions, like their ancestors, they could misbehave in terrible ways and try to challenge their human. Which, would not be a very good thing…

So, now you know a little about wolves and what they are really like, hope you’ve enjoyed reading this little passage on wolves, thank you……
