Anything, Everything, and yet nothing: what I'd like to call nothing

"HE WAS NEAR MY HOUSE!!"

"No, he was CLOSER to MINE!"

It's hard telling your two best friends to shut up. Especially when they're yelling in your ear.

"GUYS, SHUT UP!!!" I don't care how hard it is. I'll tell them anyway.

"Ryan likes ME!!"

"No he DOESN'T!!"

I never saw Sherrie and Mikalah fighting like that before. And it was all over Ryan Kane, some guy who is unattractive and annoying. Yet two of my friends are in love with him!!!

"YES HE DOES!"

People always say expect the impossible- and I do- most of the time. But I never imagined the impossible being Mikalah reaching out, fist clenched, to punch Sherrie. Several boys shifted their attention from their lockers to my friends. JERKS!

"What the heck?" I said as I grabbed Mikalah's arm. "Don't let a boy get in between you. We're all friends here!"

And then I heard some random voice say, "I HATE YOU!"

Then another, "SO DO I!"

I took a deep breath. "Except them." I said again.

Something was completely weird. West Penn Middle School wasn't usually that rough. I mean, we're not the BEST school. The school's been up since 1964!!! I KNOW it's not the best. But that's no exception.

"Okay." Mikalah walked on, her blonde curls bouncing so perfectly. Things can be resolved so quickly.

Sherrie and I looked at each other, and we started walking to homeroom.

"Why didn't any teachers come when Mikalah and I were arguing?" Sherrie asked me.

"Well, most teachers here are older than the school."

"Hah, that's funny. But seriously, I heard that Mr. Raabe is only 33."

"That's what they WANT you to think.

Then I felt the presence of somebody familiar behind me or next to me. And there was somebody walking past me. I could feel their eyes gazing at me. Something inside me (I want to say it was in my head, or in my chest, or I DON'T KNOW!!!) jumped 50 feet, landed, and it was okay. But it felt like the intense rush that you do when you run for a long distance or when you jump over five stairs on a staircase. I didn't understand it, what I was experiencing.

"Hi, Tara." Chase Coult spoke.

"Hi." I responded lightly.

Once Chase was out of earshot, Sherrie turned to me. "What was that?" She smiled.

I rolled my eyes. "Chase said 'hi'. He's my friend, it's nothing unusual!"

"You think?" We were finally in homeroom, a wasteland of other people just sitting, not moving, doing nothing.

'Whatever.' I thought. I pulled out my chair and took a seat at my desk

"It's what I like to call nothing." I called after her. Most likely she didn't hear, but I didn't care either.

There was nothing I could do, except read or something, so I pulled out the book I was reading, Angels & Demons by Dan Brown.

Before I had any time to read one word, I heard Chase and Ryan (the guy Mikalah and Sherrie are obsessed with) talking about someone, not just anyone- ME!
