Outside: chapter 2

in Land of No Edward, so why bother dating?

Jess and Mint ran down to the center of the sector. Jess could already see her brother tied to his stake. She had never been so proud! Most people thought that her brother was worthless, even more so then the other males, but now she could hold her head up high. Her brother was a hero!
Every year, Sectors 14-16 sacrificed a male, by throwing him over the wall. Jess had heard rumors that the other Sectors did not have this practice, but decided it must be false, do to the fact that there was also a rumor they let males roam free. With out even a simple leash to keep them under control!

Jess shook these thoughts from her head. It didn't matter anyway. The Elders of each Sector never let the other Sectors meet anymore. Today she needed to focus on the festivities. She danced along with every one else, ate the festival food, and teased some of the better looking males. She cheered louder than any one when it came time to throw her brother over. BUt since it was HER brother being sacrificed, she had gotten closest to the wall. She had seen her brothers face when thay lifted him, scared, than shocked, then....smug! Did he think he was better then everyone, because he got to see the abyss beyond the wall? She halted her screaming for a few seconds, but it was long enough.

Because she heard the soft thud when they threw her brother. A thud that shouldn't exist, because there was no land beyond the wall. It simply ENDED. Jess looked at Mint standing almost as close to the wall as she was. And she knew Mint had heard it to. Mint opened her mouth and mouthed something to Jess. it was the same saying of their Instructer in Fighting.
"Things are not as they appear"
It was true in battle, and it was true now. Because there was no edge of the world.
