Faces In The Crowd; 4

I decided to go to a psychiatrist and see if they knew anything about it. I did and they said it might have been flashbakcs form my past. I immediatley started thinking the same. Every now and then I thought I saw the man, the woman, or the little boy in a crowd of people, but it always turned out to be someone else. A year finally passed and I didn't see the man, woman, or boy ever again. Then one day, something awful happened. "Safire, we have to talk," said Mrs. Connor. I sar down and prepared for the worst. When those words leave her mouth, it's never good.

"Yes Mrs. Connor?" I squeaked. She sighed, "It's hard to explain, but we can't keep you unless we adopt you, and we just don't have that kind of money and we just can't do it. So, we've arranged for a person to come pick you up and," She was quieter at this part, "take you to an adoption agency." I stood up, fast, "What?! How can they do this?!" I was angered at the adoption people, then I focused my anger at Mrs. Connor. "How could you not love me enough to keep me?! Am I going to go on living with the memory that you let me go like you bought me at a store and returned me?!" She sighed, "Now, Safire, there's nothing we can do. You know we're over head in bills and don't have any money."

I stomped out of the room, into what was going to be my room no longer. I grabbed a suit case and packed my clothes and pictures of my friends at school. I picked up the phone and called all my friends and went through six people, only two cried. The others were just as upset, but they were the type who didn't cry. I came downstairs, suitcase in hand. Mrs. Connor sighed, "Honey, you're not allowed to bring anything." I dropped the suitcase, "What?! We have to go to a f@#*in' adoption agency and they won't even let us bring stuff?!!" I was outraged and you could tell, obviously from my screaming, but also because I never cursed and that was a big no no in that house.

Mr. Connor stood up, "Young lady, I don't care how mad you are. You will not curse in this house, do you understand?" Mrs. Connor put her hand up, "Andy, take it easy. This is a catastrophe for her. I can understand how she would want to say that now you-" I didn't hear the rest of their argument, I was upstairs trying to decide what things I could fit in my pocket. I changed into some shorts with big pockets and put all the pictures I had taken of me and my friends in my pocket.

I had one picture framed. A smile came to my face as I stared at it. My boyfriend, his two friends and my other three friends were all standing next to me, making goofy faces. Three were girls, Lysa, Crystal and Angel. The other three were boys. Ian, Carl and Mark. I placed that in my pocket, not removing the frame. You couldn't tell I had anything in my pocket because my pockets were huge. I heard the front door open and knew it was the person here to pick me up. I thought to myself, "Well, too bad for them. They're not even going to get to see my face."
