A Day in The Life of Hazel Kamalachi; Chapter 3, Hanging 'In'

by Heather
in your dreams

The day passed by with some regrets (most of those made by Jake), and some pleasureness arousing. Hazel, twirling a strand of her hair and scribbling her pencil quietly, wrote a note to Cady in Science. She passed it, quite sastisfied with herself. The teacher, Mr. Rilestone was rambling--but about how 'you kids here don't get nearly as much homework as I did back in the day' and 'you'd be thrilled if you got this much homework back in the day'.

Leaving Hazel and Jake to respond in unison in their heads, WE'RE NOT BACK IN THE DAY!

Hazel raised her hand so the teacher would think she was listening. "Sound is caused by rapid movements called vibrations."

Mr. Rilestone nodded, and continued to ramble.

Hazel glanced over at Cady, who was writing furiously on a scrap of paper. After doing so, she nearly smacked Hazel in the face with her note. Hazel, taken aback, read the note:

Haze, are you SERIOUS? invite JAKE? HE'S A TOTAL CLUTZ, and he DOESN'T EVEN KNOW THE CAPITOL OF FLORIDA! our friday hang outs are supposed to be for you, me, Fiona, Taylor, and Zoey ONLY!!!! if JAKE hangs out with us, it could totally be a disaster. im starting to think you like HIM!

Hazel rolled her eyes, and tapped lightly on her note,

i don't like jake. you know i don't like jake! and maybe we should be focusing on hanging in...not out.

Cady read this and turned white-hot with anger.

"YOU DO TOO LIKE JAKE! YOU LOOOVE HIM! YOU WANNA MARRY HIM! HAZEL AND JAKE SITTIN' IN A TREE, K-I-S-S-I-NG, FIRST COMES LOOOOVE, THEN COMES MARRIAGE, THEN COMES A BABY IN A BABY CARRIAGE!" she screamed.

Every face turned on her, and Cady, still bright pink, said, "You're spending ALL of your time with Jake! Oh, Jake invited me to his house, OH, I'm playing baseball with Jake--SORRY, Jake's coming over. Maybe you DON'T want me around, you--you--and we were FRIENDS!" She was out of breath now, panting, her voice shrill.

"I...you...and what the HECK is hanging IN? IN? SO LIKE, HAZEL!" And with a perfect girly "UGGHH" turned around, and sat blankly in her seat.

Mr. Rilestone just stared. "C-cady, would you like to leave the room for a moment?"

Cady bit her lip so hard it bled. "NO!"

Mr. Rilestone raised his voice. "Cady--"

Cady shrieked, took her books, and stomped out of the room, leaving Hazel with a tear in her eye, and open-mouthed.
