Melanie and the Wicked Wich
by Melissa Averitt
“Hoo,hoo” Melanie heard an owl as she wandered through the dark forest. Melanie is a 10 year old girl that likes to explore scary places. She is a petite girl. Her skin color is as peach as a school desk. Her eyes are the color of a light blue sky. Melanie’s light brown hair was long and curly. She always wore a dark gown and a cape. She never wore any shoes. Every day if she doesn’t hear anything funny she doesn’t smile. Melanie dreamed of going into the dark forest and now her dream came true. She knew the dark forest was the scariest place she could ever go but she didn’t care, she just wanted to see what was in it. Melanie felt a cool breeze on her cheek as she wandered through the dark forest. When Melanie looked forward she couldn’t see anything because it was foggy and misty. Suddenly Melanie heard a meoooow and out of nowhere came a very black cat. His eyes were bright yellow. He also had a very light voice. Soon Melanie and the cat became best friends. Then Melanie said, “What should I name such a beautiful cat like you?” Melanie thought for a minute. Then she said, “I’ll name you Oscar. In a few hours Melanie and Oscar came to an opening. They stared at a humungous castle. They both froze for a few of minutes. ”There’s only one thing to do now, see what is in this castle.” Melanie said. A frown appeared on Oscar’s face. ”Here we go!” Melanie knocked on the steel metal door. There was no answer, she knocked again. Still no answer. Melanie started to wonder if anyone was there. Suddenly the door started to open by itself. Melanie was so scared she wanted to scream, but she didn’t. As the door was opening it made a “Creeeeek” sound. After the steel metal door was open they went inside. They entered a mysterious, pitch black room. Melanie always carried a candle with her just in case she went some place that was dark. So she took it out and lit it. The room was cool and it smelled like stale air. There was a dead body at the great big staircase. Melanie stepped one inch and in a blink of an eye, poof! There was a flash of blue light. Melanie raised her candle up so she could see what it was and who it was. In the little light she had she pictured a black little person. “ My name is Vicky” said a dark voice. Vicky is a mean petite woman. She always wanted to be the first one to get or do anything. A black cape encompassed her, she wore a black skirt and shirt. Her eyes were as red as blood. If you looked straight into her eyes they would make you remember all the bad times you have had. Vicky would never smile even if she had to. Scars covered her back because when Vicky broke something valuable as a child her mother would hit her on the back with a ruler. All of a sudden, Melanie remembered that in a book she had read it said in a castle there was a box and in that box was a red golden ring. All of a sudden Melanie ran towards the staircase as fast as her skinny legs would take her. “NO DON’T GO UP THERE” Vicky screamed. But Melanie kept going. When Melanie and Oscar got to the top of the staircase they were straining to get air. As soon as Melanie and Oscar caught their breath Melanie looked down the staircase, and who was coming up the stairs, that mean old Vicky. So Melanie started to run again. She ran faster and faster until she came to a very big door in front of her. She quickly opened the door and went in. Inside she only saw a plain old box and she knew what was in it. So she ran towards it. Suddenly the door flew open. It was Vicky. Melanie scrambled to open the box, took the magic red golden ring and put it on her finger and mumbled “Turn, Turn, Turn make this mean old Vicky turn to stone.” In a blink of an eye there was a flash of red light. When the light had disappeared Melanie saw a gray stone person. “ Yah, Yah that means Vicky is gone! ” exclaimed Melanie! After that day Melanie was proud of what she did because she had turned a mean person into stone.
