Trapped In The Store
by Jenny Nguyen
“Bye Mom! See you later!” Yelled Miranda. “Bye!” Her mom said. Miranda went to pick her friends up. Her friends’ names were Mandy and Caitlyn. When they came to pick costumes in the store, in a flash Miranda found the perfect costume. She ran over there, picked it up and showed her friends. “Nice costume.” Said Mandy. “Very cute.” Said Caitlyn. It was a bee. It had black and yellow stripes, a little stinger, and antennas. Mandy has a Princess costume and Caitlyn has a Cat costume. “Meow.” She purred. They all laughed. After they purchased their costumes, Miranda dropped her purse. “You guys go ahead, I’ll catch up.” She said. “Okay.” They replied. Suddenly she heard the door close and the lights turned off one by one. She heard a “click.” The door was locked. She is locked in a pitch black, big, lonely store. Miranda wandered around the store to find a light switch. Suddenly she felt something. “I think this is the light switch.” She thought. She turned it on. The lights flicked on one by one. After she turned it on she felt like someone was watching her. She looked back as fast as lightning, she saw a man crouching down at the counter. She quietly tip-toed over to the counter. She looked down. But nobody was there. “How strange.” She thought. Suddenly she heard a tiny tap. She looked, there was a picklock attached to a note. “Here is a picklock, it is your way out.” The note said. “Okay, what am I supposed to do with a picklock?” She said. Mean while, after she said that, another note fell. “Think about the name.” It said. She thought and thought. “I got it!” She exclaimed. She looked at it, and the door. She went over to the door and she put the picklock in and wiggled it until she heard a “click.” Slowly she turned the knob. It opened. She gasped and drove all the way home. When she got home it was midnight. “Where on earth were you Miranda!? Her mom yelled furiously. She didn’t know what to say. She knew her parents wouldn’t believe her. “Um.... I got stuck in traffic.” She lied. She hated lying “Oh, okay but go to bed right now.” Her parents said calmly. That night she didn’t sleep a wink. She was still wondering who gave her those notes. But she made a promise to herself, never to go in that store again.
