in wherever works for you

"elephant, elephant
you have a very long nose"
"yes, my mama has
a long nose too"
"elephant, elephant
tell me who you love"
"oh, you know it's
my mama that I love"
but where is your mama?
have they come
with their trucks
rumbling along the dusty road
with their nets
that take
never give?
never return?
even now
does your mama's trumpet
go unheard?
the hands
pulling this massive creature
never give?
never return?
or yet:
do they take
even more?
does a shot
ring through the hot air
and then a moan?
does your mama
enter the realm that
never gives?
never returns?
will she
never return?
or maybe you are right.
maybe your mama
is down by the waterhole
like you say, zousan.

(note: the stanzas at the beginning are lyrics from a traditional Japanese song. Zousan means "little elephant" in Japanese.)
