Why Instructions Save Lives

Why Instructions Save Lives

“Mmmmm” I groaned as I woke to the ‘sweet’ sound of something crashing outside. I’m Bella, a boring, shy, fourteen year-old girl. Thanks to my parents, I know how to speak, write, and read French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese. I comes on handy if you like traveling. I grudgingly rolled out of bed and onto the floor. “Oaf” I grunted as my body made impact with the floor. I sluggishly got up and trudged to the backyard where I was sure the crashing noise came from. I kept bumping into things since my eyes weren’t fully open at two a.m. When I got to the backdoor, feeling a bruise form at my waist thanks to a stupid counter, I hesitantly opened the door. I blinked twice before I noticed there was nothing. Hmm I wondered as I eyed the middle of the yard before I turned around and walked in the house. A moment later, I heard a whirring sound. I busted through the door again to see nothing, AGAIN.I must be hearing things I thought to myself as I walked through the door. When I took one step inside, the noise came again. “I better find something good, I muttered as I turned around. My eyes popped and my mouth dropped as I gaped at the sight before me. In front of me was a huge, weird shaped thingy with blinking lights like a Christmas tree. I think it was some kind of ship. I blinked as the light flashed in my eyes. All of a sudden a ramp landed in front of me with a huge thump. My eyes shifted side to side to see if it was a joke or something. Nothing. So I hesitantly walked up the ramp. I stopped right in my tracks as I saw the inside. It was awesome!!!!! At least twice the size of parking lot. The floors glistened as if it was just newly bought. Walls like steel were nailed together. To the right were hundreds of controls and stuff. The whole room looked as if it had a future theme. All of a sudden, the feeling of eyes glaring at the back of your head knocked me out of my awe. I froze in place as I tried to glance behind me. “What are you doing here?” asked a voice behind me. I slowly turned around and came face to face with a green, weird looking creature. We just stared at each other. “Well, um. You er see.” I stammered “Well?” it asked eyeing me. ”If you aren’t going to tell me your name, I will tell you mine. I’m Carlisle, head alien from Mars. “Um I’m Bella, a human from Earth?” I said, well more liked asked. “Hmm.” Said Carlisle puckering his green lips in thought. Carlisle was at least eight feet tall, towering over my small five foot five inches of height. Green covered his skin like a plant. Wrinkles were carved in his forehead. Without warning, the ship started flowing up. “Ahhhh” I screamed in panic “Hope you don’t mind a ride.” I nodded without thinking. I walked to the control place and sat down in a seat. Stars, dust and other things zoomed pass us. The view was AWESOME. I could see all the planets and details. Just then, the ship started to shake and rumble. I fell of the seat with a loud thump. “What’s happening?” “We’re falling.” Was all he said calmly. “Well do something.” I said panic and my past ten years flashed before my eyes. “But there are instructions.” He whined. “Well get the freakin’ instructions” I demanded. Sighing, he walked over to a cabinet and took out a piece of paper. “Uh oh” he murmered. I gave him a questioning look. ”We only have French, Italian and Hebrew but I only know English and some Bulgarian.” He said with a sad look. “Oh give me that.” With that, I grabbed the instructions from his hands and read the French. “Push the restart button” I murmered. “Push the restart button” I yelled louder and ran to the button and slammed my hand on the button. Finally the noise stopped. I sighed with relief. “Do you want to drive?” Carlisle asked all of a sudden. “Um sure.” I got in the seat and looked at all the buttons and other stuff in front of me. I pulled the lever closest to me and drove back home. When the ramp got down, I scrambled down and ran inside. I looked at the clock and it read four a’clock “Ugh” I groaned. I trudged back to my room and went into a slumber right when my head hit the pillow. That night I dreamed of driving the ship again. The felling of the seat rumbling beneath me still went through my body. That night I promised to myself to never go outside to see what made the noise. And I never break promises.
