Aidan Chapter !0

Aidan ran to retrieve the ball, he knew it was all down to him now. The distance between them was miniscule, only less than a metre. He braced himself for the impact, she crashed into him with the force of a stag on a rampage. He managed to keep his hold on the floor, and wrestle the ball out of her vice like grip. He had nearly succeeded, though she snatched the ball back and charged him to the floor. She ran past him and virtually trampled his team before scoring a try.

Piper swore under his breath. However, on the next play Piper had the ball. He ran forward, before neatly passing to Hannah. Hannah ran the ball expertly to the half-way line before passing it to Aidan, Aidan cradled the ball for a second and gathered his courage. He sprinted passed Puma Cole, one of the only black boys in school. The Cole family were a large prestigious family, who done everything to the best of their ability. Puma lunged at Aidan and knocked so that he stumbled, that tackle was not the best of his ability: As tackling Aidan was like trying to catch a speeding bullet in your teeth. Aidan carried on relentlessly down the pitch, darting, weaving and dodging like a gazelle.

He saw Emma and once again braced himself for impact, or it seemed. Aidan, at the last moment leapt to the left with all his might. Emma charged passed, while Aidan rolled to his feet and sprinted forward like a wild cheetah after it’s breakfast. He pounced like a puma and landed the ball over the try line. The team went wild with cheering!

Then it was down to the last few minutes, Puma’s sister Lynx Cole had the ball and was tackled by Emma Pyres. Except Emma had tripped her, Aidan was given the ball. When the whistle blew he would have to run. He dashed down the field, mud and grass erupting from under his feet. He weaved left avoiding Emma then a quick right avoiding Puma. He leapt passed the try line and set the ball down. The referee blew the whistle, the had won the game!!!
“Sydney House!!” shouted Piper.
“Sydney House!!!!!!” the team shouted back.

Hannah gave Aidan a high-five, “We’re in the finals!” she shouted. “Yeah I know, against Clair House………” Aidan felt a bit nervous, Clair House had the ‘Goliath’ of school rugby players: Miles Northwest. Miles was usually a pacifist, but on the field his huge size allowed him to bulldoze the opposition. The again, Aidan was the fastest athlete in school. With Aidan’s speed he could easily outrun the bulky hulk of Miles Northwest. Though it was his team he was more worried about……….

It was settled, that the grand final would be held next weekend in Field8. Aidan was already jogging home from the match without staying for pizza, there was spur in his step as he was in a hurry. He was hoping to get about half an hours band practise before he had to go to the funeral. He hurried across the last stretch of fields of Day & Donegal Farm and reached the front lawns. He spied Tommy Litt a few metres ahead of me and ran to catch up with him. Tommy was the bands lead guitarist, he had sleek matte black hair that swept over one eye like an emo’s and warm tropical green eyes that seemed to smile. Aidan caught up and slowed to a saunter at Tommy’s side.
“Hey,” panted Aidan, Tommy said hi as he turned around a little, “So did you practise the tune for Summers Snow?”
“Yeah, that song was well written. What grade are you in music theory?” asked Tommy, as he reached over his shoulder into the front pouch of his guitar bag and retrieved a stapled booklet of music.
“My dad teaches me, and he don’t believe in those grades,” answered Aidan.
“Well anyway, I had my guitar re-stringed!” smiled Tommy excitedly, “They’re made of a special alloy that amplifies sound!”
“That’s pretty cool,” grinned Aidan.
