Minnesota Vikings (Draft)
by Trey
In the vikings first game, they trounced all over the Chicago Bears, 37-13. It was a historical upset but rarely talked about today. The vikings ended up going a poor 4-12 that year, but the vikings were just getting started. In 1964 they really improved when running back Bill Brown & kicker Fred Cox led the vikings to an 8-5 record. Minnesota quarterback Fran Tarkenton was a star for the vikings until he got traded in 1967.In 1968 the vikings won the NFC East by going 8-6.Wait until I tell you about how the vikings did in 1969!!!Because in 1969 the vikings set sail for greatness. In the second game of that year,Kapp threw 7 touchdowns against the Baltimore Colts. The vikings won 11 more games in a row before beating Cleveland 27-7 to have a spot in the Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs. The vikings were heavily favored but couldn't get their offense going and lost 23-7.The vikings went 45-10-1 in 3 years but were haunted by Super Bowl losses, almost all in the 1970's. In 1982 the vikings got a new home, Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. In 1988 the vikings went 8-7 and stunned the sports world by beating the 10-6 New Orleans Saints by a good score of 44-10. Then they beat San Francisco 36-24. Sadly, the vikings lost to the Redskins 17-10 a week later. In 1992 the vikings got a new head coach, which was Dennis Green, a former college football head coach. They also added another little spark to their offense that very same year, Cris Carter. Not only did he give Minnesota magic, he built himself a hall of fame career. Cris Carter was 6-3 and had great hands that helped him catch almost every pass that was thrown his way, high passes, low passes, and even underthrown passes, Cris Carter always caught it. Cris Carter also caught the famous ''alley oop" passes where he outjumped defenders for the ball. The vikings made the playoffs 8 years from 1992-2000. In one playoff game the vikings were down 19-3 against the giants at halftime and came back to win by a count of 23-22. The vikings lost a week later, but still had some guts left in them.Red Mccombs predicted that the vikings would go 16-0,they didn't go 16-0, but how they came so close. One of the reasons that were so good in 1998 was because the vikings signed Randy Moss that same year. He ran an impressive 4.3 seconds in the 40 yard dash. They went 15-1 in 1998. In the playoffs the vikings ripped the cardinals 41-21. The vikings roared out to a 20-7 lead against the falcons in the NFC Championship Game. The game went to overtime though,(the first overtime in chamionship game history) and the falcons won on a missed field goal. The vikings haven't won it all,but will set sail again.
