Chapter 1 - The Cottage

There was a girl named Sarah Cathaway. Sarah was very excited because her mom promised her that they were going to the cottage with Sarah's best friend, Marisa. The next day was the day! Sarah was screaming and dancing! Sarah's family had to quiet her down because she was so excited. Sarah's mom fed her breakfast and then went to pick up Marisa. Marisa smiled when she came in and waved to Sarah. Sarah said hi back with a piece of jelly toast in her mouth. Marisa and Sarah went in the car and talked. It took 5 hours to get there. "Oh, finally we are here", said Marisa. As soon as the car stopped Sarah opened the car door and grabbed Marisa to pull her to the cottage door. The door was cracked a little and you could see some red paint had come out and showed the wood. The rest of the cottage was painted yellow, but the color was fading. There was a crack on the front path and there were many ants inside. Sarah's mom reached into her pocket and pulled out the keys. As soon as she opened the door the girls took their suitcases from Sarah's parents and ran to get changed in their bathing suits. They loved the beach. Mrs. Cathaway handed the girls their swim goggles and buttered some buns for a snack. The beach was sandy and filled with shells. In the middle were logs they used to make a fire. Marisa was the first in the water. She jumped in the chilly water. Her dark hair dripped in the water and she tried to pull it up. Sarah was collecting shells on the beach, but then Sarah found something. "Marisa, get over here. I found something," said Sarah. Marisa slipped off her goggles and threw them on the beach. Then she ran to Sarah soaking wet. "I found a box, Maris. Can you help me open it? It's heavy," said Sarah. Inside were the most beautiful rocks they had ever seen. On the edge of the box was a dirty paper covered in sand. Inside it said, Dear readers I found these rocks myself. They will bring you great adventures while you visit this cottage, sincerely, the ower of this cottage. P.S. keep the rocks a secret. You're the only ones that know about them.
