Merlin and the Typhoon

Merlin and the Typhoon
by Ryan M.

Once upon a time, there lived a very happy dugong, and he lived in an underwater bungalow. The dugong's name was Merlin. Merlin's parents weren't that rich. The best piece of clothing Merlin's parents could afford was a seersucker cummerbund that they bought from a wise guru. Merlin went to a mahatma where they learned about these weird things called humans. The humans lived "above the surface" and every once in a while someone would claim they saw one. One day when Merlin and his parents were sleeping, a giant typhoon hit and washed away the whole village, except for Merlin's cottage. When Merlin walked outside he was happier than you would expect. He didn't like his village, because everyone was always mean to him. Something Merlin saw from a distance was that the village safe was open. He swam over and took one gaze at the money. He was shocked because there were 100,000 bronze rupees, 150,000 silver rupees, and 200,000 gold rupees! Merlin was in a state of nirvana. There used to be bad karma in the village but Merlin was the happiest he's been in a long time. Now Merlin could afford a lifetime supply of his favorite rice, basmati.
