I live in the States, so this book was especially interesting for me. But even if you don't live in the USA, "The Scary States of America," is a book for anyone who likes ghost stories.
"The Scary States of America" is about the paranormal: one story for every one of the fifty states. Some stories are "good," like the girl who was given a warning -- by aliens, and the ghost who, speaking through another woman, solved her own murder. Some stories are creepy, like the lighthouse that collects soals and the extraterrestrials that visit farms and "harvest" the organs of farm animals. Some stories will have me looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life, like the "Beast of Bray Road," a werewolf that eats deer, and, when it can get them, people.
"The Scary States of America" is the reason why I will never get closer than I have to to abandoned wearhouses in West Virginia, why I hope that I will never run into the "Jersey Devil" on a trip to my grandparents' house, and why I am so thankful that I don't live in Arizona.
So, in conclusion, read it, read it, READ IT! Unless, of course, it's too close to your bedtime. Then, don't.
Now, forgive me, I have to go check for monsters (or portals containing homicidal maniacs) under my bed.
