Computers Don't Like Orange Juice Chapter Four *Final Chapter*

The puppy wriggled and barked and panted the whole way home, but we held him tight.
I couldn't let Lucy slip away. With the finding of the puppy, we seemed almost there. So close to saving her.
I came in. Mom was brushing Lucy's short blonde curls.
How we all wished to see them bouncing as she ran again.
Mom glared at us. "Mia, I told you no pets in the house. Especially not strays."
"No, mom. The dog might help us."
She looked at my sincere face. She delicatly tucked the blankets around Lucy and sighed.
"How can the puppy help Lucy?"
I explained. I tried to, anyway. I was so angry at the time, so mad that she had broke my computer, and wished that she would stop bugging me.
Make her not talk. Make her have to stay at least ten feet away from me.
Anything, but not her always being asleep.
I said how the puppy had found me. He had found Lucy. He had crept in, licked her and left.
And that's how it started.
Mom stared at me. She looked so weary. I think I looked that way to.
I couldn't let my family stay broken all because of my selfish wish.
Well, at least I think that's what it was.
My mom didn't know what to think. I thought she was going to rant about the dog giving Lucy some sort of sleeping disease, but instead she hugged me. Tara left the room.
"Be careful what you wish for." my mom whispered.
"I except your apology now"
We couldn't believe our ears.
Lucy was sitting upright in bed, as lively and alert as if she had never even been asleep all this time. We hugged her so tight, I thought we'd kill her.
But that wasn't the only difference.
The sun was set in the sky the same time it was when Lucy stopped waking up. The calender's sad marks counting the days of Lucy's slumber were gone. It was as if it hadn't happened. My mom looked at me funny.
"Honey, why are you in Lucy's room? You look confused."
I was trying not to cry!
With happiness, of course.
"Mom, you don't remember? Lucy, she was asleep, for days, she couldn't wake..." Mom was shaking her head.
It didn't matter if no one remembered. At least I learnt my lesson..
The puppy.
He was sitting on the bed too, panting, his pink moist tongue hanging out of his mouth. "Oh, Mia, you brought home a puppy! Can we keep him?" Lucy asked.
She looked happy too.
I hugged Lucy, and the puppy. I whispered in the dog's ear,
"Thank you so much, whatever just happened. I wish me and Lucy will always be together. Forever."
I covered my mouth, but it was to late.
Stupid wishes.
