in California
After getting Alessa's test scores and telling Alessa's school that she's moving, we waited to be accepted. Mom and Dad had filled out the forms and got our gift certificates and mailed them to the school. It seemed like Caleb was sort of drifting out of the family, and his birthday was coming up.
"What about Caleb?" I asked.
"Your father and I have talked about this, and we decided to send him to kindergarten a year later." Mom said.
"And I go to fourth grade a year early,"
"You were born 1998, just like everyone else, but you were born in December. Got it?"
"Sorta,"
"OK,"
"Dad, I want a journal," I said.
"Why?" Dad asked.
I had practiced this. "Because I want to record my everyday thoughts and activities,"
"All right, but no lock diaries. They cost too much and you'll lose the keys,"
"Yay. I swear I'll make it a good use of our- I mean your money."
"What do you mean? We'll have a lot of money left since you're school's free,"
The next day, Dad came home with a journal. And guess what! It was a lock diary!
So I wrote this:
Anxiously I await to be accepted into Spring Meadows Elementary. I am in fourth grade and Alessa is in fifth grade. It is amazing how close in age we are but how different we are. Well, I'm going to bed because this is becoming boring. I should use less boring words. You're probably bored to death.

"Jaimy! Alessa! You've been accepted!" I heard Mom yell.
"Are you serious?!" I heard Alessa reply.
Since I wasn't much of a morning person, I groggily climbed out of bed and slunk over to the kitchen. "Accepted?" I mumbled.
"Yes!" Dad cried. "You'll start school there in a couple days. I'm still a little disappointed in you not finding the school on your own, but congrats anyways,"
