Jaimy Silva, the One and Only Chapter 5: Schooled

by Dana
in California

On a bright sunny Tuesday in March, I walked to Banks Street with Alessa, where Spring Meadows Elementary was. It wasn't that far, but Alessa was wearing flats and decided to walk barefooted because of her blisters.
"See ya, suckah!" Alessa laughed, running towards the school.
I picked up her shoes. "Ha! I got your shoes!"
But she didn't hear me.
When I saw her, she was already giggling with a group of girls. She was like that. She could make friends in a quickie. I could make judgments in a quickie, if that counts as anything. I don't think so.
When the bell rang, everyone lined up, so I did too. "Hi, I'm Jaimy," I said to the girl in front of me.
"I'm Lizabeth Anne," she said. "Your name sounds like `James.' Can I call you that?"
"Sure. Can I call you Liz?"
"OK, James."
I grinned. Beat that, Alessa. I can make judgments AND friends in a quickie.
After the Pledge of Allegiance, all the kids in my class sat down in their desks. Liz told me to sit in the empty desk next to her. I did.
"Class, we have a new student in class," my teacher, Mr. Howard announced.
"I think they can already tell," I whispered to Liz.
"What school did you used to go to?" Mr. Howard asked.
"Uh...... Silva School."
"And where is that?"
"My house."
"You were home-schooled?"
"Unless Silva School is real."
"Do you have any siblings?"
"My brother Caleb and my sister Alessa. Alessa stinks and needs to take a bath now."
"So Alexa is your baby sister?" Mr. Howard said.
" No, she's in fifth grade. She just really needs to bathe,"
The class laughed.
"Uh........ That's enough questions for now," the teacher muttered.
"Fine with me."

Hm... well, gotta say that

Hm... well, gotta say that it's kinda obvious Liz is going to be Jaimy's friend. But, question, why is Liz calling Jaimy-- James? It's a variation, and frankly, by her character I would expect her to say "No." But whatever. It's getting real good, keep it up!
