Grand Mother
A poem for my Grandma Phyllis
Grandmother
always has
room in her heart
for more.
Grandmother
is there
whenever you need
a shoulder to cry on,
a friend to share with.
Grandmother
kindles
the little spark
we all have inside,
and makes it
glow.
She speaks
the unheard language
of young children,
and understands.
She reads
the faces and hearts
of older children,
and remembers.
She looks
upon the face
of a sleeping baby,
new to the world,
and loves.
She knows
the ever-changing face of
the world
and more—
to the stars,
there and back again.
She has seen
enough stories
to last
through endless
lifetimes.
Grandmother’s
love
is forever
and truly
Grand.
Author's Note: My Grandma Phyllis wasn't able to celebrate this Mother's Day at home. Her appendix ruptured and she had to get it removed. She'll be in the hospital for at least three days. My family and I are really worried about her.
I wrote this poem for her as my special version of a get-well card. I want her to know that I will always love her and I'm thankful for everything she has done for me.
Please comment on what you think of this poem.
