“Hey Dad, what’s that?” I asked as we walked back home from the carnival.
My dad looked up. “Wow! It looks like a comet! It’s all orange and yellow, too!”
“Since when are comets orange and yellow?” I asked him.
“I don’t know, maybe it’s really close to Earth,” he suggested.
The sky was really bright, even though it was after 7:30 PM. I heard some people yell, “Look, it’s Solaris!” Lots of people looked really excited to see it, but others looked incredibly scared and ran away. I got confused at why those people were being such babies. It’s not like it was going to come down and hit us.
Me, my Dad, and my Brother walked farther, and the sky started to dim again.
“Oh, it’s going away,” my brother said. We got into our house and said hi to my mom and sister. They had to leave the carnival early because my sister threw up.
A half hour later, the news was on and it said the Earth was getting warmer by the second. I wondered if it was because of the comet, or Solaris. Then I realized it was really hot. I looked at the thermometer outside and saw it was rising fast; it was at 70 degrees and it was supposed to be around 45! I got scared and called my parents out. They looked at it and gasped. They also noticed how we could actually see the thermometer; it was almost 8:30. It was getting gradually brighter outside and the light was coming from the east horizon. We heard distant screams and the wind was picking up. My mother picked up my sister, and my brother clung to my father.
“Quick! Get to the basement!” But it was too late. There was deafening roar that sounded like 100 jet engines. I closed my ears and watched as a colossal asteroid soared overhead. It was even bigger than we could see, though, because it did not touch any planes that flew up in the clouds or crash into any skyscrapers; it was still out in space. It wasn’t an asteroid though, it was made of gold and almost looked like a spaceship that branched out in different directions.
I didn’t have any more time to think. My skin was beginning to burn. I felt pain all over my body. I looked around and saw everyone and everything burning to ground. My hair was on fire. My eyes were bleeding. I couldn’t see anything anymore. The heat overwhelmed me. I screamed, but I couldn’t hear anything, and I fell to the ground, and everything went black.
