note: for those of you who have learned about the water cycle, this is a crazy story about a droplet going through it. this was my science project (don't ask how it relates to science) so take a look and tell me what you think and what grade i could possible get on it!
When each day starts, I wake up to the dull sound of water exiting the atmosphere. It happens every single day: becoming snow, rain, sleet, or hail and ending up somewhere underground or in an ocean or a lake or whatever. This boring process that goes on and on is called the water cycle, and it drives me CRAZY!! Why? It’s because I’m a water droplet that lives in the sky where the human eye cannot see. My name is Lizzie....welcome to my water-filled world.
***********************************************
The sun burnt my face with its destructive rays. Sighing heavily, I rolled onto my left side, away from my bedroom window. My older sister Jessie was supposed to get the sun room, but nooooo, she gave it to me.
Anyway, things were about to get worse. Every Wednesday I had to fly two extra miles to school because the bus didn’t pass my house. The bittersweet joy of learning about the water cycle every waking moment I’m at school makes me sick.
My digital clock read 9:29, so I knew it was going to be a long day. I stood up and swayed my way downstairs, where Jessie was waiting. ‘No, anyone but her’ I thought. It was too late because she saw me trying to sneak out the door.
“Hey, ‘lil sis!” she smiled, and pulled me into a bear hug. Then she looked down at my clothes. “Your wearing that?” she said, pointing a finger at my outfit, “pink and neon green don’t match.”
I smiled as sweetly as I could (which makes me look psycho) and said, “Well at least my face doesn’t match with that ugly thing you have.”
Jessie gaped, jaw completely dropped at me. She looked like she would strike at me any minute. I knew I had to make a quick getaway, so I flew into the sky with all my might, slamming the door behind me. As I weaved in and out of clouds, I saw Jessie from the corner of my eye. Out of nowhere, Jessie transformed into a pickup truck sized piece of hail, and plummeted toward the earth.
By that time I was flying so fast I didn’t realize I was at the school bus until the evil bus driver Gregory called my name.
“LIZZIE! You’re holdin’ me up! If you go any slower I’ll miss ‘Days of our Lives’!” Greg (that’s what I call him) opened the bus doors for me.
“Sorry, Greg.” I said, laughing silently to myself. I tried to fly as slowly as I could to a seat just to annoy him. Once Greg started the bus again, something weird happened. The bottom of the bus began to shake, and the floor fell out from beneath me. All the kids in the bus (including me) took the form of snowflakes, gently falling, some more graceful than others, eventually covered Oklahoma in a white blanket. I swirled through the air, finally landing. Here came the water cycle again.
An enormous black thing with a green splotch stretching across it towered over me, lowering itself near my tiny body. There was only one thing I could do.
“NO! NO! SPAAARE MEEEE!” I shrieked. A hand came down and scooped me up. A young girl held me close to her freakishly large head.
“Did you just speak?” she stammered, staring at me blankly, her eyes growing with fear.
“My name is Lizzie,” I said to her, taking a deep bow, “pleased to make your aqquaintance.” (droplets are taught to always be polite to humans)
“I’m Britin.” Britin looked as scared as I was. Her hand trembled.
“Can you put me down?” I squeaked, “I still need to go through the rest of the water cycle.”
“Um, yeah...sure.” Britin panicked and threw me down forcefully, and I sank through the snow. I kept sinking until I was completely underground.
I sat there for about two hours, waiting for the sun to wake. The sooner I got home, the sooner I could get to school. Once a few sun beams bounced off the ground, I began to rise into the air again, evaporating. Birds flew past me, disappearing in the clouds. They taunted me with their shrill cry as I floated through the air.....CAAAW!....CAAAW!!
Soon I began to shiver. Cold vapors ran down my spine until i puffed into a cloud. Humans past below me, pointing at the sky in awe. I wasn’t that exciting, but I was flattered that they were looking at me. A large group of people were staring to the left of me. I looked to see what all the fuss was about.
There was a distinctly clear, bright pink disc-shaped hover craft floating beside me. It bounced up and down in midair, then stopped. What I was about to witness was a once in a lifetime moment. Two creatures emerged from the object, decked in pink. They had perfectly round heads, and wore pink mini dresses. Even their skin was pink.
The two creatures approached me, and sat on me (after all, I was a cloud). Then one said:
“Do you think we took a wrong turn in Albuquerque?”
Then the other spoke: “Maybe. I think we’re in Pittsburgh.”
I sighed. “You’re both wrong,” I said to them, “my name’s Lizzie and you’re in Oklahoma.”
Both of the creatures looked around, startled at my voice.
“You’re not human, are you?”
“No. I’m just a cloud.”
“Well, I’m Kimi, and this is Rachel. Do you need a ride home?”
They surprised me with their kindness. I guess it’s because of the way martian life is portrayed in movies.
“As a matter of fact, I do. It’s just three miles northwest of here.” I said to them.
“Okay, then hop on!” Kimi and Rachel guided me to their mother ship and let me inside. I expected to see some type of high tech gadgetry, but their mother ship looked just like my home. As we glided by, Rachel taught me how to write in her language, Rachelese.
When we finally reached my school, I waved to Kimi and Rachel, and told them to visit Oklahoma anytime. Before I knew it, I was just plain Lizzie the droplet again. I ran into my classroom and sat in the back row, hoping my teacher Mr. Gibson wouldn’t see me.
“And that concludes today’s lesson,” Mr. Gibson said, “I will see you all tomorrow.”
YES!! FREEDOM!!! I bolted out of my seat, and flew through an open window. I was thinking about how Jessie would punch my face in because of what happened that morning, but I felt myself turning into a raindrop, and falling towards the Oklahoma ground.
