24 Divided By 2: October

I was so excited. It was finally time for my family's annual Halloween party, complete with strobe lights, hanging ghosts (if that's what they could be called), and spooky jams playing on the CD player.

Before the guests arrived, Samantha and I sat stuffing our faces with candy corn and telling our spooky stories, running through them to judge if they were suitable enough to tell to the partygoers.

"And the children ran away and never came back to Nimble Manor again!"

"Lame ending."

"I know. Pretty pathetic, huh?"

"Yeah."

"Oh well. I think we have enough stories to keep the children spooked and the adults intrigued."

"Yeah, I suppose."

````````````
An hour later, the party was in full swing, and Samantha was grooving with a cute guy from her prealgebra class. I however was standing off to the side and searching around for my current crush Jason, who was nowhere to be seen, even though he had RSVP'd yes. Then, I spotted him by the snacks table, eating a gummy eyeball. Eww.
I sashayed over and nonchalantly picked up a cup and started pretending to fill it. "Here, let me get that," He said. When he was finished, he handed it to me, and we got eye contact for one heartstopping moment.
I coughed and said to the ground, "Want to go dance?"
"Uh, sure." Jason looked queasy.
After a couple of songs it was story telling time, which went by quickly. Then Jason took my hand and let me to the side yard, where there was a hammock.
We shared a sweet, wonderful, perfect kiss, which was a one-way ticket to Cloud Nine.
But his next words sent me back down to earth.
He looked deep in my eyes. "Lulu, you know I'm totally into you. But I've got a girlfriend. She lives in Seattle, which as you know, is about four hours away. We've been together since sixth grade, and as you know, I'm in eighth, so it's been a while. I love her, but I love you too, even though it's only been one romantic evening--"
Whoah, the L-word? Where was this coming from?
"The thing is, I was wondering if you and Colleen could both be my girlfriends." He looks down, waiting for my answer.
As if! What a weirdo. What a jerk. What a playa. He just wanted to have as many girls as he could get.
"You're such a loser. As if any girl would consent to that."
"Well, some have..."
"Oh, so I'm not the only one you've roped into being in a love triangle?" I dump the punch on his head and stalk away.
