The main hall of Crystal Springs Elementary School was crowded with bands that thought they were good. But Fifiana Smith thought her band was the best without a doubt. The school was holding a Battle of the Bands, and the sign-up sheets were in the hall.
Fifiana's band, the Sock Monkeyz, had the most experience. They got gigs, like birthday parties and stuff like that. The Sock Monkeyz deserved that trophy. But there was some tough competition, like Matthew and the Boys. And there were some bands that were no competition at all, like the Pretty Pretty Princesses. (Is that ridiculous or what?)
Fifiana wasn't in the band at all. She was the manager. The one who booked all the gigs and stuff. She also held the practices at her house, since she was the only one with a drum set. She might have been the hardest working one in the band.
"Lola!" Fifiana called.
"What?" replied the band's drummer.
"Are you gonnna make it to the Battle of the Bands thing?"
"Am I? Of course! I wouldn't miss it for the world!"
"Then we're on the same page," Fifiana said brightly, "But the problem is that Lindy doesn't want to go, and I already signed us up,"
"Uh-oh. Lindy is the lead singer. What are we gonna do without her?"
"We need a new singer, or convince Lindy."
"Do you sing?"
"Oh, heck no. No with a cherry on top. Fifiana Smith does not sing,"
"OK, so you don't sing. Neither do I. Caroline?"
The band's guitarist plopped right next to Fifiana. "I don't sing," she shook her head. "Doesn't run in the family,"
"Well, that's the whole band," I sighed. "We need to convince Lindy,"
Lindy's identical twin sister, Tristen, appeared. "Lindy?" she said. "Oh, she's really not fond of singing in front of the school. Is that weird? Because I absolutely love doing it. It's fun!"
Caroline and Lola exchanged quick glances. Fifiana and Lindy would kill them if they let Triseten in the band. Even for just a second. But they were desperate.
"You're NOT in the band, Tristen," Fifiana scowled.
Tristen cast a dirty glance at Fifiana, and walked away with her nose in the air.
"Why'd you do that?" Lola yelled.
"We all hate Tristen. Hate with a capital H-A-T-E. HATE!" Fifiana screamed.
"Point," Caroline said softly.
"We do hate her," Lola replied, "But we were desperate!"
"Well, we could still convince Lindy,"
"Oh."
"`Oh' is right."
"Don't shove it in my face like that!" Lola shouted, storming away.
Caroline looked at Lola, then to Fifiana, then back to Lola, and so forth. "I am not getting into this," she sighed, fleeing, hands on hips.
Fifiana guessed that the band was temporarily separated.

I love Fifiana's name, not that I would name my kid that (who in their right mind would besmerch their offspring in such manner! ;-) but it sounds all peppy and girly but then-- BAM! She's the oppisite!
