When she got to the cave, after separating from the other bats, she and Lionel transformed back to humans. "I liked being a bat so much better. But I got hungry and wanted to eat bugs. Eew." She shuddered. She turned to Lionel, who was staring out of the cave. "Lionel. They're gone arent they?" He nodded. "My parents planned to leave me anyway. Nothing to-" "Why were they going to leave you?" Bernisa asked. "I killed someone two years ago and I was banished. They said that if I came back, I'd be hanged. My parents loved it. They decided to wait two years. Then we came back to my old house. And I met you."
Thats horrible, Bernisa thought. She went over and hugged him. "I'm glad I met you. Because I needed help getting over Alcandor." She kissed him on the lips. "Thanks. You're an angel without wings."
