this book is the all out saddest book i have ever read. do NOT read this in school because you will probably end up sobbing.

Jake is only three when his parents bring home Edward. They hand him over to Jake and Jake looks in his eyes and wants to say how beautiful they are and how he loves Edward more than anything, but his is only three and can't say all that.

And so Edward grows up. Jake teaches him how to read and speak French and how to ride a bike. He shows him how to play baseball and reads to him at night. Jake somehow knows that Edward is special, and he is destined for something. At eight years old, he learns how to throw a knuckleball for his front yard pick-up games with his friends. He practices for two weeks in the rain so he can surprise his elderly friend Albert for his birthday.

Also, when their mother announces she'd going to have her sixth child, Edward promptly says that the baby will be a girl, and asks if they can name her Sabine and have fireworks when she's born. Later, all the siblings are talking about when they think the baby will come. Edward confiedently states that the baby will be born sooner than everyone thinks.

He's right.

When Jack and Mauve--their parents--get up in the middle of the night, Edward wakes Jake up and tells Edward tha he is going to follow them. Jake goes with him. It is cold and dark and two am. Tom, a police officer, gives themn a ride to the hospital with his flashin lights and just like Edward said, the baby was a girl and they named her Sabine.

Edward adopted Sabine like Jake adopted him. He sang her French songs and showed her all his pitches. Sabine loved Edward more than anything.

That's all i will say. Granted, you can sorta see what's coming, but i was crying so much when it happened.

i am still, like, crying, so.......

oh, people, just go and read the book!
