"Huh?" I asked myself.
I noticed the phone ringing next to me on the night table.
Louie woke up.
I didn't know if I should answer the phone.
I waited for 2 more rings. No one picked up.
I picked up the phone and said,
"Hello?"
"Sarah?" I heard a voice say.
"Ma?"
"Sarah! How was your flight? And how's everyone?" Ma asked.
"Everyone's fine. Ma I need to ask you a question."
"Hun, you know this is going to be one of the first and last phone calls to you. Ms. White, she dialed the number for me, I dunno the number. And I have work to do, when are going to start to work? And what was your question, dear?"
"Ma, I was about to send you a letter, it asked that if Harry, Jenna, and Annie can go to school. Mrs. Johns said that they're too young not to have an education, and she said she'll pay for it. And, plus, when I work, I wont have Harry or Jenna, or Annie bothering me. All though, I do have to take care of Louie at the same time."
Ma was silent for a few seconds.
"Well, Hun. I don't see why not. But, I want them to be in a safe, good school. Not one of those bad schools."
"Alright Ma, I’ll make sure Mrs. Johns puts them in a good school."
"Now, is Jenna or Annie, or Harry there? I wanna talk to' em."
"Yah, hold on, lemme go to there room." I said.
I had the phone on my hand; I knocked on Annie's door.
"Annie, it’s Ma, she wants’ to talk to you!" I said.
"Ok." I heard Annie say sleepily.
Then, I heard Annie pick up the phone.
I hung up.
I saw Louie; he was standing up in his crib.
"Louie, Louie, Louie." I said.
"Looee, Looee, Looee." Louie copied.
"Ha, you know your name, don't ya?" I asked him.
"Mr. Louie Jr. Marshal." I said.
"Looee, Looee, Mashl." Louie said.
"What's my name?" I asked.
"Sawa, Sawa, Mashl." Louie replied.
"What's Annie's name?" I asked.
"Annee, Anneeeeeeeee." Louie sang.
I chuckled.
"Once you turn four, we'll put you in a school." I told him.
Louie stared at me.
Then, I heard Jenna knocking on Harry's door.
"Harry, its Ma! Don't be such a lazy bed potato and pick up the phone!" Jenna yelled.
I chuckled.
"Hawy." Louie said.
"Yup, Harry." I said.
