The Rogues of Night; Chapter 19 part two

in a place where I can sing my heart out

Keron was at the end, his strength gone, and mind confused. Trying vainly to remember what had happened, he groaned aloud. Someone chuckled. “Feeling your fall?” That voice… Suddenly, everything came rushing back. Jolting upright, he found himself on the floor of the Throne room. Dread filled him as he stood and faced the man he detested more than the devil. Darxon grinned like a joker, “Keron, isn’t it?”

“Perhaps,” Keron hissed through clenched teeth.

“Well then. Do you know what I want Keron?”

            “Yes.”

“Will you give it to me?” Darxon leaned back, as if he had not a care in the world.

“I wouldn’t give it to you last time, much less this time.”

“Not even if something were at stake?”

“I have nothing,” Keron paused, fire burning wildly in his eyes, “Thanks to you.

Darxon’s attitude darkened a bit. Then a evil smirk spread across his face. “Nothing?” He asked forebodingly

            “Nobody, nothing.”

“Not even that pretty young girl. What was her name…” Darxon let the next word hang in the large room, “Nacata?”

Keron’s eyes widened a fraction, and his body stiffened, “Did they get her? Is she alright? What did you do to her?” All these frantic questions rushed through his head in a whirl of frenzy. Finally he choked out, “Where is she?”

“Safe, for now. But if you don’t tell me…” The possibilities hung like a suffocating fog.

Becoming hardened, Keron narrowed his eyes, “You lie.”

                        “Do I?”

Keron shook with nervous energy. Sweat made his hands clammy and ran in rivers down his face. “Yes.” A blow knocked him to his knees. Another knocked him on his side.

“I wouldn’t lie, tell me. You will suffer less, in all aspects. Emotionally, physically and internally.”

            “Go to hell.”

            “Very well, after you.”
