Recovering Forever
Part 1
Chapter 7

Stephanie let out a sort of shudder at remembering, and Rachel looked at her, concerned. Stephanie knew all too well she had never heard the full story. She took a deep breath after some reassurence from Karen, and continued.

"There was a huge storm, and though we all were told everything would be alright and we should wait in our cabins, we were worried. And with good reason. The ship tossed and turned, and our captain couldn't control it. The ship crashed into cliffs. It was dark, and I couldn't see, but to this day I remember the pain. Somewhere in there I found James, or he found me, and he held me tightly. We were told to abandon the ship. Some of us found life jackets, and others were forced to plunge into the icy waters. I had a life jacket."

Her eyes were faraway, and Karen nudged her to continue. She did, though sligtly angry at Karen for not helping with the story.

"I don't remember much of that night. Many of us died. Okay, not many, but some of the friends I mentioned to you. I didn't care. I didn't know what happened. I was tired, and my leg was bleeding, because I had been thrown to the edge of the ship. Anyways, I slept, and I remember falling asleep frightened that I would die. But I didn't. Come morning, I found myself on an island. The remains of the ship floated in the water, or some of them. I searched for my friends. I found Karen. ANd I was already with James. There was so much sadness that for almost that whole day, we were crying and trying to figure out what was going on. James was with me. I grew to love him. And evening slowly came. We were all under instruction by the captain of what to do. I won't bore you with details."

Rachel laughed at that, and Karen nudged her seriously. Anyone could tell Stephanie was being serious.

""James pulled me over that evening. I remember his words. He said, with his beautiful eyes boring wholes into mine, 'Steph, I love you. I know we're young, and I know I've known you for only days, but it's true. And these times are hard, okay? But I promise, I'll always be here.' And I said to him, my mind numb but happy, 'I think I love you to James. I will forever.'"

Rachel's mouth was gaping and wide.

"You never told me this, Steph!"

STephanie shrugged.

"I know."

"Why?"

"I was too sad."

"OH yeah."

She sighed. She loved Rachel, but... Sometimes she could forget important things.

"Tell me more about the island," Rachel sighed, leaning back on the hotel bed.

"I was going to, until you interupted."

"Well by all means, don't let me stop you again!"

Karen, through all this, stood like a stone against the hotel window. She knew that Stephanie was getting to something that would be hard for her to hear. Stephanie knew that too. But she had to keep talking.
