*Once again, please comment :) I really want to hear what you think of it. Sorry about the rather boring chapter. It gets more exciting later ;)!*
When I woke up nobody was home. Probably shopping for groceries. They always went together. I have no idea why.
I fixed myself some eggs for breakfast, missing Dotty’s expert cooking.
Dotty is actually our half sister. She is half Chinese and she looks it, too. She is an amazing cook and is like my second mother. I love Dotty. Well, I love everyone else of course, but it’s good to have a sister in the company of brothers.
I got dressed in jeans and a plain turquoise shirt. I packed a lunch and shoved the paper bag into my backpack. I was about to walk out the door when somebody grabbed my backpack from behind.
“You’re not going to school today,” Junco said. His voice sounded breathless.
“What happened?” I asked.
“We ran into some thugs on the street. Dotty and Shadow had stopped in a store to get some bacon,” Rusty explained.
“It would be safer for you to stay home today,” Junco said, taking the backpack off my shoulders and stashing it in the closet.
They didn’t seem very talkative. Dotty called me from the kitchen for the bacon. As I expected, it was delicious. I ate 5 pieces.
Junco declared it safe enough to go outside after lunch. Rusty invited me to go on a bike ride at the park. I accepted because I was dying of boredom cooped up in the house.
In the garage we had an awesome two person bike. It was a new model, not dorky looking at all. It was also fast. Rusty claimed the front seat.
We don’t live too far away from the park. It didn’t take us long to get to the bike trail. You could see my school from the beginning of the trail.
As we peddled along, Rusty and I talked about whatever came to our minds, bickered about which trail to turn on, and Rusty was complaining about his eye, which was now swollen shut.
“Maybe I should ride in front,” I suggested.
“Nope," he insisted.
Rusty is tall and brown haired. He has dark blue eyes. He, Shadow, and I look the most alike out of all of us.
After the ride we locked the bike up on the rack and headed out to the field. Some teenagers were playing soccer ball and we decided to join them.
When I followed Rusty to one team, he said, “Other side.”
I grinned. “You’re on, bro. But I don’t think you’ll accomplish much with one eye,” I smirked.
“You’ll see,” he said, confident as ever.
“Well you won’t!” I laughed, and then jogged of to my team. As the captains were assigning places, I noticed a red haired woman staring intently at Rusty. She looked like a motorcycle rider. A white bandana kept her curly hair out of her face and she wore tight leather chaps.
I tried to tell Rusty, but the game had just begun. I chased the ball, hoping Rusty was doing the same. But he was waiting near the goal for me to make a kick. For a moment, I got lost in the game and forgot about the red haired lady. I had scored two goals and had ‘accidently’ kicked Rusty in the shin when we were battling for the ball. And then I remembered the woman’s stare: cold and hard, full of hatred. I glanced back to see is she was still there. She was. And she wasn’t staring at Rusty. She was looking at me. Her gaze gave me goose bumps. I abandoned the ball and raced to Rusty.
“Rusty, that person has been staring at us since the game started. It’s creeping me out!” I said.
“Where?”
I didn’t want to point, so I described her and her location. When Rusty saw her his face turned white.
“Shoot,” he said sharply. “Run to the bike, now.”
