The evening was strange and silent to Amadahy. The hazy smell of honey-suckle seeped into the air from the laden plant on the pergola. The silence was broken by the sweet, tinkling of the silver wind chimes that hung all around her. She walked further into the deserted streets of the Glass City, where the festival of the moon would be held in a few days.

She stopped in front of the great statue of the beloved Nuuc, virgin goddess of the moon. The statue shone bright gold in the dusk and the sky, usually dark by now, was a great mass of pale pink and crimson clouds. Stars peeped through, their light mingling with that of the setting sun. This was why the evening felt so peculiar. The last of the sun’s rays danced around the cobbled streets and twinkled as it caught the light of the glass houses that surrounded her.

Amadahy gazed up into the heavenly face of her chosen goddess, and then up at the now star spangled sky. Change was coming; she could smell it in the air. It was blowing in on the wind, rushing in like a great storm from the west. Amadahy closed her eyes. It was then that she new that the city would, in time, surely fall.

It was time to leave.
