K@zel in the clouds... somewhere... (SOMEBODY GET THIS KID A MAP!) |
May 28th, 2007
Jamie Miscrad’s life was getting difficult. Her parents were divorced and her mom moved her to a new school: Dr. Lester’s East Middle School. There or anywhere for that matter, she had no friends.
Every night and on weekends (or anytime else where she wasn’t doing anything) she would have fabulous thoughts, dreams, and stories about dragons flying high clouds of cotton and wolves that could take you back in time. O how they were wonderful! The only thing she liked, in fact the only thing she loved was her imagination. The tradeoff was that she could not share her thoughts and stories. She had to keep them to herself.
At school everybody would make her feel terrible. They would call her name s like: “the furless mouse†or “she-who-is-airâ€. These were cruel ways of telling every one in the school that she didn’t say anything of importance or anything at all. It wasn’t entirely Jamie’s fault that she was shy around new people. Yet, she did nothing.
After a day of teasing and so-on she came home to find a snowy-white falcon on her fence. Its ice-like gaze looked at her. Jamie stared into its eyes.
“Jamie Miscrad,†it spoke. Jamie just stared at him.
“How do you know my name?†asked Jamie. The falcon flew down from his roosting place to the Jamie’s feet.
“Ah, you don’t remember me? You created a story about me. Remember the snowy-white falcon that helps people in extraordinary ways? I am Mako, the snowy-white falcon.†Jamie then remembered that last summer she wrote a story about Mako who helped a girl named Sitha.
“Wait, why are you here?†asked Jamie timidly. The falcon just stared at her and then it said: “I am a figment of your imagination and we haven’t much time. Please come with me. Listen, your immense imagination cannot be contained in such an underdeveloped brain that can not comprehend with Dark forces and Light. If no actions are taken, you will discover a dark side of your imagination. It will not be realistically terrible but terrible in ways only you can imagine. I fear this will happen if you don’t go to Dream Cloud. Come, Dream cloud awaits!†With that the falcon swooped and bowed to let Jamie on and without haste they flew into the sky. Up, up they went. Clouds pasted them as they flew. The clouds were a blinding white, with occasional highlights of purple. Then they reached a cloud that was a snowy-white with bright blue highlights. Mako made a graceful landing on the cloud. Jamie noticed at least a dozen children with their imaginary creatures. All around there were griffins and wolves but the one that really stood out was a giant, brilliant, black lion with a mane of fire. He stood with a girl no less then Jamie’s age who had her head bowed with shyness. Her hair was a dark brown and she had one green eye and one amber. She was tall and skinny and somehow Jamie knew her, like from a dream. While Jamie was lost in thought, the lion and the girl walked up to them. The lion then spoke. Jamie was wondering why she knew the girl and didn’t hear when the black lion was speaking with Mako. The falcon interrupted her thoughts when he said:
“Calico and I will have to talk for a while, Good day.†And Mako flew off to leave Jamie and the other girl. It was the girl who spoke first.
“Um, hello do I know you from some where?†asked the girl. Now Jamie sifted through her brains and at the same time she uttered the word ‘school’ at the same time the girl did too.
“Yes, well, I’m Alex. Alexander Reed. B-But call me Alex.†Muttered Alex.
“Er, I-I’m Jamie Miscrad. “ Jamie said this with a smile (the first smile in a couple weeks) for she had finally made a friend. Jamie and Alex talked about thoughts and stories (including Calico, the fire-lion who saved the forest with an almighty roar). Next thing they knew Calico and Mako walked up.
“Follow us,†said Calico. And they did. As they walked, Jamie felt that parts of her were being unlocked. It was a thrilling experience. A kind of freeness was over taking her yet anxiousness was eating her too. She knew nothing of what was about to happen. They then stopped at two fountains that were filled with not water but wisps of ever-changing vapor.
“These fountains are why we came here. Do you see this vapor? The vapor is thoughts and dreams people let go of in ages past, I ask that you do the same. It is a very simple act, you are to dip your heads in and let go of your thoughts, dreams and stories. You are able to choose, but chose wisely for they will never be retrieved and stay here for ever more.†Boomed the lion. The two girls did as they were told and dipped their heads.
Jamie let go of thoughts and dreams. But the hardest was the stories. When she let go of these she felt a sudden coldness. Her head froze as if she fell into the Artic Ocean. She was still letting go until a voice called: ‘come back’ and so she did.
“Alex, d-did you feel-“began Jamie. After she lifted her head, yet she had no need to finish the sentence for Alex finished it for her.
“-weird, you mean? Yeah, I get where you are coming from.†And Alex shuddered, “Did you feel all cold and stuff just like a snow leopard’s cave?†Jamie just nodded and talked a while until Calico and Mako told them both they were to leave.
“See you around I guess,†said Alex.
“Guess, it was fun. At least we will see each other in school.†Jamie said and then suddenly she smiled and embraced Alex like a sister.
“See you first best friend,†whispered Jamie into Alex’s ear. Alex just smiled and was rushed off by Calico.
“Time to go too, young Miscrad,†said Mako and she hopped onto his back with silence. She was silent as they dove throughout the snowy clouds. This landing was just as graceful Mako’s landing on Dream Cloud. He slowly landed onto her yard and Jamie hopped off. She had a question that was badgering her since the departure.
“Um, Mako, will I ever see you again, and will I ever go to Dream Cloud?†Mako just stared at her with huge, wide blank eyes.
“Ah, I can’t answer that, only fate can tell. Yet, in the meanwhile, remember the falcon who helped people in extraordinary ways. I leave you here. Good bye, young Miscrad.†With that the falcon turned into vapor and disappeared. Jamie just ran into her house and flopped onto her bed and thought of dreams and stories and floated into a graceful bliss.

The next day at school, Jamie wanted to tell her fellow students some of her stories. So at recess she found a small shaded clearing that a few children where hanging about and started.
