“Thank you Pinker,” said Grace politely from one of the beds. It was funny to see my little sister all curled up in a large overstuffed bed. It seemed to swallow her up like some sort of friendly marshmallow.
I lied down on the bed beside her. It was the most comfortable thing I had ever felt. The bed was just the right softness and the warmth of the light seemed to be absorbed in the blankets, heating my chilled and travel worn bones. I started to get drowsy. The swirling light was casting shadows, wonderful shadows.
They danced across the ceiling with such a balance. They calmed me, they made me drowsy and unstressed. I slowly drifted off to sleep. The dream started out as a pleasant one. The sky was a misty purple color and the clods were making oak tree shapes.
Ruin was dancing with Grace and me. We were twirling and swirling around a giant glass fairy. Pinker and Queen Dyler were clapping in joy at the spectacle. Suddenly the sky started to darken to a deep royal blue, then an unbreakable black. Ruin, Queen Dyler, the glass fairies, and Pinker had disappeared. Grace and I were alone. Voices were coming from nowhere.
“Open up!” they said in that strange accent that was so commonly used in Ilinar. Grey rhino headed men were charging in the room followed by a giant marshmallow. The marshmallow grabbed my sister and started to eat her. The Slaughters headed straight for me.
Mother’s voice filled the air around me as a gold light appeared between me and the Slaughters.
“Stay away from my daughters! They have not done any harm to you. Go and tell your leader ‘The Sun Will Rise Again’.” said Mother’s voice.
The Slaughter’s eyes popped out of their heads and they actually looked terrified. They ran towards a door that the marshmallow had opened. Grace ran to me and we together looked at the light. Mother told us all we could do to help Ilinar. She told us that Dyler would give us the opportunity to learn how to use our powers so we can help The Sun Rise. The rest of the night I was considering this new opportunity. Thinking back, I never did see a sun. Mother told us that The Slaughters loose power in the sun’s light. If we can harness our powers we can stop them and bring peace back to Ilinar.
Grace woke me in the morning. She seemed very excited about something.
“Mother’s here!’ she cried.
