Moonlight Ink.Prologue: Midnight Tears and a ferret named Regal

by K@zel
in the clouds... somewhere... (SOMEBODY GET THIS KID A MAP!)

The pool stood before him. It was so close he could feel the pearly light radiating off it. He hated light. It illuminated his features. He looked like an overgrown civet but with matted tan fur. He noticed that his fur was graying and he had more scars then he could remember but still, he was muscular and tense.
I have a job to do, he reminded himself. He went into his jacket’s pocket and pulled out a small bottle with a deadly still liquid inside. It was called Midnight Tears.
Midnight Tears are the most dreadful substance in the universe. One drop and it would contaminate the area with hate, despair, wrath and never ending night. The only known Well of this toxin was in the possession of his Master. The master who sent him on this task.
He stepped up to the pool with Tears in hand and bent over. He soon saw a reflection of himself. His face was covered in scars and twisted with years of hate and despise that only a Right Hand Man can have. He unscrewed the magically set top off and began to pour it into the pool.
It came out slowly at first but then faster until nothing was left. He had done his task well. He turned to leave but he missed one drop of the Midnight Tears in the bottle. That one drop splashed silently on his fur.
At that moment he began to twist in pain. It was like wires that crawled up his body. There were knives that pierced him from every inch. He screamed but nothing came out. He wanted the pain to end. More soundless screams and it went black for him. He crumpled to the ground with his eyes opened, dead.
Then a bright light came into the air and soon there was a large rat-like creature.
“Tut, tut, Stance, I expected better of you.” Whispered the figure. His name was lost a few thousand years ago but he knew himself as Mister Black Hand. He kicked his Right Hand Man’s body and growled.
“You weren’t worth much, you know, I can carry on without you, I was always capable. I’ll find a new Right Hand Man and rule the Universe....without you. You disappointed me so.” He murmured more to himself then the body. Of course, he didn’t feel any loss; he couldn’t any more because he was drowned in evil. He then took a flask from out of his sash and drank the contents of an alien liqour mixed with a small portion of Midnight Tears. He knew he would not die from drinking the Tears because they were what made up his physical body. He lost his old body many eons ago, but now he was more powerful and swift with aid of the Tears.
He took another swig and vanished, not caring to take the body with him. As he left in another flash of light, the pool was stirring.
Soon, a ferret came out. Dripping with the contents of the pool, he soon dried. He took a quick look at the body before muttering: “What’s my name?” to the pool. Another spark of light and a name formed in the pool. It said: Regal.
Regal. I like that. Thought the ferret, now dubbed Regal. I guess I better do something with that body. He didn’t know what to do with it, he already knew that he couldn’t put it in the pool but he decided he would burry it. He began to dig and dig and before long he had a big enough hole. He then pushed the body in with as much care as possible. Then he filled the hole.
“I don’t know much about you, but I hope you liked your life and, er, stuff, yeah, that should do.” He said as words of respect. “Where do I go now?” Regal looked around the forest where he stood. He knew beyond the trees were passage ways to other worlds, being he was at the center of the Universe.
“Hello?” He asked timidly. Just a breeze answered him. He tried again. All alone. He thought. He wasn’t used to the outside world yet. He only knew that pool as a home. He remembered he was just an idea once and over time, he grew. Now he must find his creator. But where? Couldn’t there be anyone? It was lonely at the center of the Universe.
Then a whisper came, but this wasn’t a reassuring whisper, this was dark and cold. Regal shivered.
“Hello?”
The Whisper just laughed in a soft menacing voice.
“Hello?” He asked again.
“Hello dear Regal,” said the Whisper. “What are you doing here? All alone with no others? Don’t you know, I’m dangerous?”
“I-I f-figured t-that out, t-t-thanks” Stammered the ferret, trying to keep cool.
“Oh did you?” The voice was silky now, not a whisper any more.
“Yep.”
“Very good, Regal. Now I need some energy to feed off of, so you volunteered quit nicely.”
“I-I didn’t v-v-volunteer”
“Oh yes, you did!” It yelled, now thorns of evil wrath poked through the silk.
Regal was scared. The voice now showed itself. It was a mass of blackness. Regal hid.
“Come out, come out” It chanted. Soon, a shadow appeared behind Regal, he screamed. Tentacles came out of the mass and tried to wrap themselves around Regal. It only touched him in a small spot but it still stung. He ran into the forest and jumped into the first passage he saw.
It was dark and a sound was sounding, like a whirl pool. Regal slid out of the tunnel onto a suburban sidewalk. Where am I? Just then, a rat-like creature appeared.
“You must be Regal,” He said.
“Y-yep.”
“I know that you don’t know me, so I’ll introduce myself now, I am Mister Black Hand and you are dead!” It yelled. A flash of indigo and Regal knew no more.
