He spun around, they were there, to his left, his right, wherever he turned. It was dark, he was alone, and the shadowed creatures were the only thing between him and the girl he cared about most. Then he heard the voice, ah yes, the voice of his beloved Choria.
“Gabriel, NO!”
He felt a charge run through his body, steadying his power, when something went wrong. He heard himself scream…and then nothing.
He woke up drenched in cold sweat that chilled him to the bone.
“Stupid nightmare” he grumbled, as he gingerly pulled himself out of the bed. He looked around. His room was a lesser walk-in closet in a New York hotel. His bed was a moth eaten mattress, and a few thin blankets. His few belongings were scattered across the hooks and shelves. And, not that he was at all vain….he had a full size mirror at one end of the room.
“Ugh.” he said, walking over to the mirror. He looked at his reflection, an entirely pitch black body, with no detail. Not even any hair. He hadn’t always looked like this. It was only since the dark power he possessed had lost control and transformed him. He wasn’t really sure how old he was, but he guessed he was somewhere in his teens. He dumped out a box full of clothes, choosing a gray knit beanie hat, a matching turtleneck sweater that concealed most of his face, and baggy black pants with an excessive amount of pockets and chains. He pulled his outfit on, and smiled as a familiar voice pierced his thought.
“Gabe, boy, Getchyo fat black butt out here, ya hear?” It was a friendly one, even if she was yelling. It was Gloria, the stocky Jamaican-American manager of the hotel.
“Coming, Gloria dearest” he called mockingly as he made his way toward the door. He poked his head out of the closet and smiled. There she stood, in a jean jacket and jeans, with her curly brown hair in two puffs on the bottom of both sides of her head.
“Yes?”
“Well, there’s a nice man here who has yet to be shown to his room. Here are his bags.”, She said in a softer tone.
