“Mark! He isn’t down, give him another!” the tall forty year old man yelled to the young twenty year old holding the tranquilizer gun pointed at the wolf. Before the young man could shoot again, a woman of the same age yelled, “That’s too much! We could kill him!” The forty year old man turned to her, “Maybe we should kill him! If he isn’t down now, when is he going to be?!” Everyone was frustrated, but no one knew what to do.

News crews were gathered, amazed at first that a wolf was there. Then amazed about what had happened. A woman news reporter talked into the camera. “John, we’re at the scene of what appears to be an escaped wolf from the Yellowstone Park. A forty-seven year old mother of two has reported that she and her children were inside watching TV, when they heard some vicious growling outside. Thinking it was a rabid, stray dog, they looked out the window to see this wolf foaming at the mouth, growling at their trash can.

“When the mother went to the phone to call the Wildlife Game and Fish Commission, she heard her children screaming looking out the window. When the children wouldn’t say what they had screamed about, the mother also called the police and an ambulance in case someone had been hurt.” A man on a small television screen replied to the woman, “Kate, are the police questioning the children at all? Was there anyone hurt? And besides the wolf’s actions, has anything else strange happened?” Kate brushed away a piece of red hair, replying, “The police are trying their best to find out from the children what had frightened them, but they only reply with quote, “I’m cold and I want my father.” Blood was found on the side of the trash can, but police think the wolf left that there, since he is bleeding from the mouth. So no one has been found or reported hurt.”

“The wolf doesn’t appear to be going down without a fight, and he is showing no violence towards anyone, just to the trash can,” she said with an almost undetectable giggle. The man on the small TV, John, stacked some papers and said, “Kate Miller with the wolf story, thank you Kate.” Kate nodded, “John.”

“Give him one more. If that doesn’t work Mark, I guess we’ll take the dozers and herd him into the truck,” the policeman told the Wildlife Official. Mark nodded and shot another into the wolf. The wolf jumped and chased his tail, trying to grab the needle. He fell on his side and managed to grab it, but it hurt to pull it, so he stopped. Turning around in another circle, he tried again. Fifteen minutes later, the policeman gave the go-ahead to bring in the bull dozers.

No one wanted to kill the wolf, afraid they would lose vital information as to what made the wolf act so strange. Three bull dozers closed in on the wolf, herding it towards the back of the caged truck. The wolf knew his options and what was going on. Before he entered the truck, he let tripped and fell on the ramp to the truck. He rolled off and close to the edge of one of the bull dozers. The man operating immediately stopped and backed up. When he was about ten feet away from the wolf, the wolf leaped up and ran through the crowd. He bolted off, taking a left down a street, through a fence and darted through a huge mass of wide open field. The clouds that had gathered growled and shot down lightning, triggering a huge down pour.

No one could see three feet in front of them, let alone which way the wolf ran. Bloodhounds searched every inch of the field, but somehow the police knew it was pointless and that they wouldn’t find the wolf. Suddenly, one of the bloodhounds stopped sniffing and perked his head up. The other dogs slowly followed his actions, and looked up from the ground. One by one, they started barking as a figure emerged from the sheet of rain.

A young boy, about twenty walked towards the police. Breathing heavily, he stared them straight in the eyes, and that was the day it started. That was the day, the world went wrong.
