would you wrap a rope

around a cloud

and yank it from the sky

 

or take a fish from the ocean

just to watch it die

 

would you crack open

all the stars

douse the moon

banish the sun

forever

 

break a bird’s wings

leave it helpless

alone

 

would you drench a rainbow with gray

and take the pot of gold away

 

or rip the silver

the sound

the beauty

from a violin

and leave it just a hunk of wood

 

 would you tear out someone’s heart

deflate it

and hand it back

 

why then

would you crush a dream
