Everything had been a horrible blur.
I could barely remember the sounds, much less what I saw. All seemed black. It was if my eyes were glued shut by an inhuman power that I’d never be able to calculate. When I regained some of my senses, if that was possible, I was able to tell that it wasn’t an inhuman power…it was some sort of dried substance that had once been sticky. And now, I couldn’t open my eyes at all.
I’d seen red before I’d seen black. I’d heard a massive crash, as if two giant metal contraptions had smashed each other to millions of bits of shrapnel that would fly in every direction.
I remember a sharp, stinging pain in the back of my neck. The pain faded into nothing, just like my vision had. Since my sense of feeling and sight had gone, I had to rely upon what I had left. I could barely process anything… and I couldn’t remember why.
Sirens faded in and out of my awareness. There were many of them… but why? I couldn’t tell. People shouting at each other came to me, and that soon became clear.
“He’s breathing!” One young voice yelled.
“In that thing? That’s crazy! Are you sure?” An older voice yelled.
“Yeah, the car’s totaled, but he’s breathing!” The younger voice yelled again. This one was coming closer.
“Get the ambulance over here!” The older voice yelled. It was farther away than the younger one. I heard footsteps, and then felt two icy cold hands on each of my arms.
“Be careful now, look at the steering wheel! It was just a moment away from going through him!” A new voice whispered angrily.
“And the seat almost flipped and crushed him! I’m being careful!” The younger voice from before said. This was also in a whisper.
“Does he have anything in there that’s still intact?” The new voice asked.
“No – hey, look! His cell phone is in the cup holder.” The younger voice said.
My breathing quickened. The air was not as heavy. It didn’t smell like gas and burning rubber any longer. It was so much better than before…
“Score! His phone’s got all his personal information!” The younger voice said.
“Who is he then?”
