Chapter One Bite, Scratch & Heart
The puppy felt warmth. He took his first breath of air. He was blind, and he felt his mother licking him clean. Soon, he heard for the first time. He heard his mother cleaing him. He heard his brother and sister whinning noisily near him. Then, his nose cicked in. He smelled fur. He smelled water. He smelled... food. He made his way, blindly, towards the smell of stomch-filling milk. He pushed his way to his food. He sucked and drank, sucked and drank. He was so intent on drinking, so hungry, that he forgot about everything else around him. he couldn't see anyway. . .
That night he learned that he had three siblings. An older sister and brother and a younger brother. The next day, he heard someone come into the den where his mother and siblings slept. This dog had a strong and powerful stench. This dog was his father. Every day he heard or smelt something new. And on the fourth day of his arrival, the puppy's eyes began to open. . .
Light filled his eyes for the first time. He looked up and saw his mother's face. Her light brown eyes and soft, wet touge. He looked to his left and saw his sister. Light brown fur, like mother, and the same light brown eyes that she had. To his right slept his two brothers. Both with dark brown fur and gold eyes. He couldn't wait to see what he looked like. He couldn't wait to see what it looked like just beyond where he slept. He stretched his small legs and made his way for the opening of the den.
His mother whinned for him to stay put. I must see what's out there! was all he was thinking. Just look really quick. So I can tell my siblings. His mother barked now, something was worrying her. What's out there? He peaked out of the den. Roots and grass surrounded him. He looked up and saw the High Blue. He could smell the squirrels, rabbits, bug, grass and flowers. He could hear the water running in a stream near by and he could see al sorts of colors. He took a step out and bellow him was a puddle of water. He looked in a saw that he had a handsome white coat and one goldish brown eye while the other was a light blue. He straigtened up, proud of his beautiful coat.
Suddenly, a loud growl. "GET BACK IN HERE!" His mother barked. he turned his head and saw a dark brown dog rushing at him. It struck him hard on the shoulder. he yipped painfully and fell back into the hole. Above him, the dog barred it's teeth. His mother got up and let out the most terrifying growl he had ever heard. The other dog barked madly, but backed away. His mother glared at him and his siblings just pitied him. He looked down at his shoulder and saw a huge gash. His beautiful white coat had changed to a bloody color around where his cut was. Now, he was pitying himself. . .
That night his mother named him and his siblings. His older sister was named Heart. His older brother was named Bite and his younger brother was named Scratch. He was named Wound. . .
