Courage and Baseball
The little boy was on the edge of the baseball field.
He stood there, silently contemplating the rough game he had just played.
Over and over again he replayed the winning home run he had hit,
And the courage it had taken to pick up the bat, and swing.
Now it seemed silly to be so nervous.
But then,
When the bases were loaded in the ninth inning,
And the whole game’s outcome depended on him,
It was the scariest thing he had faced.
After he had hit and ran the base, he remembered the team cheering and carrying him on their shoulders.
Back then he was nervous,
But now,
he’s ready for another game.

To be a well-flavored man is the gift of fortune, but to write or read comes by nature.
