The Crowned Fairy

By Megan Strickland

Age 8

One day, there were two children in a valley picking flowers. The two children saw one flower and said, “All the other flowers are open, but this one is closed.”

Suddenly, the flower opened. It was gorgeous. Then a fairy came out of it. One of the children said, “I have a jar. We can put the fairy inside it.” So they caught the fairy and put it into the jar.

“It’s so beautiful,” said one of the children. “The fairy has a pink dress on it. It also has a crown on.” They really meant it was pretty. After that, they went home.

The children gave the flowers to their mother. Then they said, “We have a surprise for you.” They got the fairy and showed it to their mom. Their mom was so surprised, she fell down.

The children took the fairy to their room and asked it if it could talk. The fairy said, “yes,” in a soft voice.

“What’s your name?” asked the fairy.

“My name is Jessica,” said one of the children.

“My name is Sarah,” said the other child.

“What’s your name?” said the children together.

“My name is Princess Cari,” said the fairy. “The only thing I want from you is to let me go. Can you?” asked the fairy.

“I want to keep you,” said Sarah. “Me too,” said Jessica. “We promise you that we will let you go in a year.”

“What?” asked the fairy.

“I think that is better than keeping you for as long as you live,” said Jessica.

“I agree with you,” said the fairy, “but what about my family?” asked the fairy. “I miss them. The whole kingdom will miss me, and I will miss them,” said the fairy. “All of them will look for me, and if they find me, they will take my crown and give it to another fairy. I won’t like that.”

“Oh, stop trying to get us to let you go right now!”

“I really want you to let me go,” cried the fairy. Tears started dripping down the fairy’s face.

“I’ll just change it from a year to a week,” said Sarah.
“Are you happier?” asked Jessica.

“A little,” sobbed the fairy. “Can you at least put me in a bigger cage?”

“Well, we can do that I guess,” said Sarah.

“I better go to bed now. Goodnight,” said Jessica.

The next day, the fairy was gone. They looked all over for her. Then they saw her sitting on their dresser.

“How did you get out?” asked Sarah.

“The jar was open,” said the fairy.

“How on earth did that happen?” said Jessica and Sarah at the same time.

“I miss my family really bad,” said the fairy.

“I’m going to let you go now,” said Sarah.

“But it wasn’t a week,” said the fairy.

“I want to let you go now,” said Sarah. “It is time.”

The kids went back to the valley with the fairy and let her go.

THE END.
