Dear Diary,
I called Mrs. Walker and she's going down to Marie's foster dad's house to investigate. I hope that when and if Marie goes to another foster home, it'll be one around here. I'll miss her if it's not. My aunt says she can't adopt Simon since she's planning on moving this week to California. I don't know what's gonna happen to Simon since he already told his social worker, so he might not be able to live around here cause they don't want him living around this area for fear his dad might try to kidnap him. Things are starting to fall apart. Plus, one of my friends moved back to this school. His name is Bobby and he moved from this school in third grade and he came back. Unfortunatley, he came back looking like a punk and bragging to the punk gang about how he smoked cigarettes and had tried a variety of drugs. Why are all the kids around here turning to this? It's driving me nuts! I can't take it. I'm gonna talk to him tomorrow about this. Maybe I can straighten him up.

Dear Diary,
I talked to Bobby alright. I caught him about fifteen minutes before the bell for the end of recess rang. I pulled him aside and said, "Bobby, do you recognize me?" He stared for awhile, then got wide eyed "Oh my gosh! Is that you Julia? Wow, you look, you look.. um.. different." "Thanks, I think. Listen, I heard you talking to those punks. Do you really do that stuff? You know, smoke and take drugs?" He looked down at his shoes for awhile and then looked up, "Had you fooled too huh? Nah, I don't do that stuff Julie. In fact, I'm getting great grades and I'm gonna be in that Gifted and Talented class." "Really? Wow, I'm in that class too. Looks like we'll be in the same class." He looked worried, "Oh, well, just to let you know, I was in G.T. back in Montana and I never really liked it so I probably won't be in it." "Oh, too bad." The bell rung. "I guess I'll see you later huh?" "Yeah, yeah later." That's it. He didn't look at me the rest of the day. I'm glad he was just kidding and doesn't really do that stuff.

Dear Diary,
Looks like Marie found a new foster home. In Oklahoma. We're in New York and she's gonna be all the way in Oklahoma. My life sucks. Simon is gonna go to court next Thursday and he has a really good lawyer. I guess what Leanne says is true "When you win something, you lose something too." So Simon won the fact that his father won't beat him anymore, but I'll never see him again. Sigh. Just when I thought everyting was going great, this happens. Even my social worker is being a butthead. He doesn't like the idea of Keith living with me, so he's taking any little thing and trying to make it something big. Like when Leanne works late and leaves me alone at home, he tries to make that a big deal. But I have the police's phone number on speed dial (including Leanne's office number), our very nice and watchful neighbors live right across the street, and I ALWAYS lock the doors. Sometimes Leanne's even able to find a babysitter. A lady named Barbra Johnson is Mr. Donn's (my social worker's) boss. She's really nice and thinks that this whole business of watching us so closly is ridiculous. She's convinced that we're in perfect living conditions. She may be Mr. Donn's boss, but she's not the one who can decide whether or not we should be watched. Too bad though. We probably wouldn't be in this situation if she could. But everything else would still be like hell.
