Groom and Fit
By Trenton Morgan
Last week I was at the North Central Arkansas district fair and cattle show at Melbourne, Arkansas. I was entered in a grooming contest with two other people. The two other people are Lara Moore and Brian Sanders, and they’re both from Calico Rock.
“Attention in the barn the grooming contest will start in ten minutes, so be getting your tack and calves up to the arena,” Mr. Tim Cunningham said. Brian brought the calf up to the arena, Lara and I brought the tack up as well. “The grooming contest has started,” he said.
First, I started out drying Old Blue with a blow dryer. Brian started blow drying as well. Lara started pulling up leg hair. “Everybody stop!” Mr. Tim said. “We blew a breaker. Use only one dryer for now”, Tim said.
In half an hour I stopped drying and started blowing in pink sheen. “Time is up,” the judge said.
Next we had to lead the calf around the arena. After the judge decided who won we had to put Old Blue back in the chute.
After the judge went and said something to all of the groups, Tim was coming toward us with three big bottles of mane and tail shampoo. “Well done,” Tim said.
