Chapter 1: Marissa and Miranda

Miranda and I have never been much alike for twins.  Of course we LOOK identical- same curly blonde hair, hazel green eyes, and pale white skin.  But based on our personalities we’re complete opposites:  Her idea of fun is sitting in a lab all Saturday night mixing this chemical with that bacteria to see what she can make explode.  LAME!  Wouldn’t YOU rather kick back and chill out on the couch watching a movie on your break from school?  Because I know that I would.  She’s the teacher’s pet that has never missed one day of school in five years and I’m well know by every security guard around middle school (even though I’ve only been going there for three months) and NOT because I got to be the hall monitor three weeks in a row like Miranda has.  She’s a know-it-all who tries to be better than me at everything I do.  And she succeeds at it unless it involves hitting something, kicking something, catching something… basically anything that needs ANY athletic ability whatsoever.  For example:  When I was 9, I beat my 13 year old cousin at arm wrestling and 11-year-old Miranda couldn’t beat a 6-year-old at a thumb war!                                          I’ve tried teaching Miranda how to ride a bike but after watching her ride strait into a thorn bush about 3 times, I just gave up on her.  Sometimes I wish Miranda was a little more like me, then maybe we could hang out more.  But until that happens (which it never will)  I’m perfectly fine just telling people that Miranda is an alien from Mar’s that looks exactly like me that I’ve never met before in my life.  And you wouldn’t BELIEVE how many people actually buy it..

                                                                 .                            .                                 .

Hi, I’m Miranda.  Or you may already know me from Marissa as the 11 year old who can’t ride a bike, beat a 6 year old at a thumb war, or maybe just the lame twin alien from Mars who spends her Saturday night mixing chemicals and bacteria at a science lab.  If all of that seems familiar then you probably already heard from my twin Sister Marissa… sorry about her.  She thinks she’s so much better than me and tries to beat me at everything I do.  And she CAN beat me at everything… well, unless it involves long division, combining chemicals, naming each planet… basically anything that needs any brains.  For example:  When I was 8 I won the chess club finals and Marissa got disqualified from checkers on her first move because she moved her piece strait forward.                                                                                                                            I tried teaching Marissa how to hook up the new ‘Wii’ game system that she bought with her dog-walking and lawn-mowing money.  But after she nearly knocked over the TV while trying to get to the back of it to hook up the white, red, and yellow wires, I just kind of took over.  Sometimes I wish Marissa was a little more like me, then maybe we could get along better.  But since you and me BOTH know that is never going to happen, I’ll just keep pretending Marissa is in somewhat of a way like me so maybe, JUST maybe, it would be a little easier to tolerate the monster that sleeps on the bunk bed above me…
