I’ve never been like you,

Nor do I intend to try.

And I won’t change into something new

Just to satisfy the style of your eye.

Accept me as I am,

Or don’t accept me at all.

And I’ll continue to do all that I can

To stay true to my own law

Do not condemn me

For acting as my most genuine self.

And do not try to make me believe

That my existence holds no wealth.

For, I’m destined for greater things

Than just the judgments that you throw,

With a firm hold on my fated path by the reins

Only because I’ve made it so.

Do not try to hurt my feelings

Just because I’ve set a different course,

Or you will soon find that my dealings

Don’t always transpire from a positive source.

A being can only swallow so many grievances

Until the silent façade breaks,

‘Til the combination of my deviances

And a hardened heart sets the stakes

So, consider this a warning

Of what lies below the surface,

Of what a troubled heart is storing

In order to prove their own purpose.

I’ve never been like you,
