Only Human

I don't know who I am
And it bothers me
So I melt symbols with symbols to form
Guesswork that doesn't seem so hollow
I am the inventor of the question mark
And when I tilt my voice upward
You should reply
"I don't know" and then
It will haunt our dreams tonight
Because I am only human
I have named myself in Latin
Or I could be so much more
There are footprints on the moon now
But I don't remember why...
I'm certain to deny it
But I do believe in fairy tales
And everything appears so different
In retrospect, everything turned out right
So it seems
I am the inventor the written word
And the spoken one, too, and they are
Instruments of lies that sing of truth
In a world beyond reality
Because I am only human
And I have graphed myself, mapped myself
Pulled myself apart and
Put myself together
And still, I know that there's something missing
There are tire treads on Mars now
But I don't remember why...
My eyes dot the world
I plant my face upon every creature
And plant the shapes of creatures
Upon the pixilated sky
And I give them names
And numbers, as I force myself asleep
Because I am only human
I have named myself in Latin
Or I could be so much more
There are footprints on the moon now
But I don't remember why...
There are footprints on the moon now
But I don't remember why...

No commets? really...SRSLY PEOPLE? That's offensive, and extremely disappointing (wags finger at anyone who happens to be watching)
I don't know how many times I'm going to say this, but I love love love your poetry. I want to read it, pick it apart, find out what makes it tick. And I think this one is about...the fact that even if you have everything it can't replace a heart. But what the heck, I only read it once, so I'm still pretty clueless. Seems like I should dedicate a whole day to figuring out your poetry meanings...but unfourtunately I don't have an attention span that long. So an, "Excellent job!" will have to do for now....and hooray for track stalking :)

AHA! I think I have come upon the meaning of the wonderful poem that I have faved. It's not really from the perspective of one person, it's from the persepctive of the human race. I think it still has something to do with heart and soul and how power isn't everthing, but yes. In truth, we don't know why we exist or what our purpose is. We try to analyze everything, give it a reason, a place, establishign ourselves as superior. We forget to see things for what they truly are. We take our names from other languages, forever building off of what others do, because we are only human. We stamp our presence on every living thing, and we don't know why our actions cause so much trouble. We went to the moon once...but why?
