The Princess of the Fairies
There once lived, in the Lily Garden Waterfall the beautiful but never seen, fairies. They were sad however because their king and queen, His Majesty, James Lanson and Her Majesty, Lily Belle did not have a daughter to succeed them. You see, in Fairy Ville, the princesses take the throne after the king or queen die. But before the crowning ceremony the princess had to do the Fairy Dance of Wisdom. This was very important to the fairies because if this didn’t happen the secret magic invisibility spell would break and all mortals would be able to see the fairies in clear daylight.
The fairies searched everywhere in Fairy Ville for a clever, intelligent, attractive and, unselfish child. But their search was in vain. They all cried and whined. Suddenly a pretty fairy approached them saying “My name is Jennifer. I might have what you are looking for. Come to my house tomorrow at 5:30 A.M. I shall meet you then.” The fairies became curious so they agreed to come.
The next day the fairies quickly woke up, clicked their fingers and vanished. The next moment they were at Jennifer’s house. Since the fairies had magical powers they could do this easily!! They soon arrived at Jennifer’s home. It was a small but neat cottage. They politely knocked on the door. Jennifer opened it, not looking at all surprised and she said, “Well, I was expecting you to come. Please enter.” The fairies entered awkwardly seating themselves on the comfortable cushions. Then the eldest fairy in the group spoke up politely,”We have come here to receive the fairy child. Is she he-“But she didn’t finish because right at that moment Jennifer thrust a very, very tiny box into the lap of one of the fairies. Then she said firmly,”Put what you find in this box in one of the lilies on the waterfall. Leave it there for one week without even touching it. Then you shall see what happens.” Then without another word she vanished. The fairies looked flabbergasted. They fairies ran out of the cottage and flew to the outside gates of Fairy Ville. They opened the gate and went outside. The waterfall was shining and sparkling. They looked for a beautiful lily and they found one. Shaded with red, yellow, and orange, it looked magnificent. The fairies flew into it. They rested inside it for sometime. Then the eldest fairy opened the box and she gasped. Inside was the most beautiful locket studded with precious stones. She however still put the locket inside the lily. Then they all flew off happily.
One week passed quickly!! The fairies flew off to find the lily. It was easy because they could hear a baby crying. They immediately flew into the lily and to their happiness and astonishment there lay a beautiful child adorned with rubies, emeralds, sapphires and other gems of royalty that were on the locket. The baby also wore gold silk robes with lace trimmings. The fairies took the baby gently to the king and queen, who were overjoyed to at last have a child. It was a girl. They took care of her and she grew up to be a very smart, intelligent, pretty, polite and unselfish girl named Jasmine. Soon the king died of an illness and the queen was so filled with grief that she jumped into the funeral pyre and was consumed by the flames.
The young princess was filled with grief and sadness that both her parents had died. But she controlled her sadness. She had important things to do. First of all she needed to learn the Fairy Dance of Wisdom!! She wondered where to go. Jasmine went to the other fairies and asked them if they knew the dance. But none of them did because none of them were royalty. She went to her minister, Isabelle, and asked Isabelle if she knew the dance. Isabelle was a very old lady so she didn’t know either!! But old as she was, she had a very sharp memory. She told Jasmine to go to Jennifer but she did not tell why. So Jasmine with a group of fairies went to Jennifer’s house, not at all knowing she was going to her real mother’s house!!
Jasmine raptly tapped the door waiting impatiently. Jennifer opened the door and stared. She quickly gestured for them to come in. “For whom do I owe this honor???” she asked Jasmine politely. Jasmine replied,” My name is princess Jasmine Lanson Belle. I have heard that you know the Fairy Dance of Wisdom. Please teach it to me, I shall do anything!!!” Jennifer, after hearing these words, burst into tears. Jasmine ran to Jennifer’s side and asked, “What is it?” Jennifer said through sobs, “I am your mother, Jasmine!! You have never known that!” And Jennifer told the whole story about Jasmine’s birth. Jasmine hugged her mother. Mother and daughter were again re-united. Then Jennifer taught Jasmine how to do the Fairy Dance of Wisdom until Jasmine could do it properly. She learned it perfectly.
The ceremony day came and Jasmine danced perfectly. She told her special speech which brought all the fairies to tears!!
She ruled for many long happy years and the fairies were happy under her rule. She protected her kingdom without having to fight, for all invaders were entranced by her beauty and wisdom. She could easily persuade the invaders to leave her kingdom. Thus, the story ends happily ever after!
The End
